Look everyone!!! Drugs!!!

Post by _Nephi »

K... So I have your attention, and yes, this is a thread about drugs. Specifically, the plant genus cannabis. So stick around and read (especially you Merc)...

So, as some of you may had read, we have had a bad case of the stomach bug hit our family this week. Everyone had gotten it but myself, and if its a bacterial type of stomach bug, then I am probably immune due to massive amounts of antibiotics in my system. However, my wife got it late last night, and she couldn't keep anything down. She was miserable!! Dry heaves, the works.

Now, at one point in my past, I used to smoke weed, you could say. But manytimes I saw the medical value over anything else. I had epilepsy, and if I felt myself having an aura (I was quick to spot them), firing one up 9/10 would cause it not to happen. I also found that if I kept a specific level of it in my system, it would prevent even auras from forming.

Well, somewhere along the way, I learned that if you have a stomach bug, not only does smoking cannabis give you an appetite, but it also removes the feeling of nausea. Basically, it makes you feel fine, so long as you don't have a bad fevor (and no one did). So, I went to a friend and got a joint from him. I came back here, and my wife smoked half of off and on all night long (midnight or so until 4 or 5 am, and then she slept).

Now, you guys love my way of reading scriptures, so read this from the words of wisdom (D&C 89):

10 And again, verily I say unto you, all wholesome herbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man—
11 Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with prudence and thanksgiving.

I read this and it says the following: "all plants are granted to you to use for health and creation (manufacturing). Use them when the time is correct; use them wisely and with great thanks."

So, my question is, what about using such things for medicine? Does that break the WoW?

Ima post this over on MAD in a few days, heh.... Starting it out here, though...

Proverb 15:17 and Psalm 104:14 are used by Rasta’s to justify use of an herbal sacrament.

Well, don't be too surprised when pretty much every single TBM on the MAD board, or any member of your bishopric or stake president, would disagree with your interpretation and your decision. Anyhow, that's my prediction. I don't think you'll find much sympathy or support for smoking weed for whatever reason at all on that board.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Legal ramifications aside, I think what you did is perfectly fine. As an active-doubter, I can say that you won't get that reaction from most TBM's. For most in the church, the WOW is the holy grail of the commandments. It is one of the few things that can openly set us apart from other people, so its treated way more holier than it should (IMHO). With regards to the WOW, I think letting people live their own lives using their own wisdom and experience should be the ultimate goal of the church, without tying certain consumptions to church penalties. Kinda like the way it all started out. But I doubt we will ever move in that direction. Sort like expecting the government to decrease spending. You can't really believe the church will have less dogma or fewer rules of obedience.

Nephi, good luck on the entire venture. Let us know before they burn you at the stake for heresy over at MAD...

I'm with MoClips, I think the WoW needs to go back to individual personal interpretation, though even in that case it can be taken too far at times.

I remember getting some cookies once for the munch 'n mingle after sacrament. Oreos with "coffee" flavored filling, along with another kind, I think plain. Which ones do you think were left uneaten? Not to mention, I took a bottle of generic coke to a friend's house once for a party. Months later, it was still sitting on top of the fridge...mind you, another friend of mine drinks diet coke.

Go figure. I've never smoked weed, but if it makes the bellyaches go away for ya, have at it.

Funny thing, I have seen my cousin blow weed smoke in her dog's face...he just lay down and turned to liquid, that was interesting to see...

The only potential ramification that I could see with using happy-sticky-purple-punch for medicinal use from an LDS paradigm would be:

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

If it were legal... *shrugs*

I feel I am going to get my first ban there rather soon here... I jumped a mod's case today for speaking out of turn about me. Regardless, I know I will get mucho flames there. Hope to clue some into a better understanding of what God is saying here.

The hard part was, I had two other children in just as bad a case... Here I have in my fingers, the wonder drug. The drug that will make them feel better and able to hold down fluids. But I couldn't cross that line. I have a line in my sand there right now. Kids and any kind of smoke is not a good thing.

My wife and I, her feeling totally fine, felt helpless about that.
