Warning in subject line ie Language, Profanity, etc.

Post by _msnobody »

Could we all be courteous and do like is often done on RfM and put something in the subject line when we link to something with profanity, porn/soft porn, etc. I realize almost everything goes in one of the forums, but it would be nice to sort of know when *not* to click when the kids are in earshot/eyeshot.

You could always use fanciful expressions like, "This discussion contains trace amounts of Mercury" or perhaps it could be short and simple such as, "Porterized".

I don't suppose it's practical to put it in the subject line (too few characters available; original poster can't control what's contributed to the thread), but if it is something like that, a notation of "NSFW" should precede the link. That's common internet courtesy.

Ya mean like "swearage"? I love it when they use that term!

Back to this...I don't think that will work. While the OP might not embed a link of the nature you describe, another poster might do that within the thread. Maybe don't click the link?

I have a better idea. Why don't those who are offended by what they see as crass language make threads and use "profanity" as a straw man to tear down the character of those with more reasonable arguments?

I don't think it is a very practical idea for the reasons already mentioned. Others can come in and curse as they see fit.
