He knew that he was going to run for the presidency ten years ago, probably knew he was going to most of his life.
Was the alledged saving of the salt lake olympics a setup to give Romney public face time and credibility within the hermetically sealed environment of Utah politics and power brokers?
Was his involement directly related to his presidential run and if so what role did the Mormon elite play in this happening?

SLOC needed a new manager after the scandal came to light. Picking Romney was fairly political, since he was certainly not the person that any Olympic Committee would have picked. Still, he was adequate as a manager.
That saving the Olympics part really is going overboard. Tom Welch would have made the games much smoother if the bribery scandal had not come to light. Had the reporters not raised a flag, Romney would have let the Church be much more active in their role during the Olympics. That in turn would have caused a heap of scorn afterward for the Church.

He did? He share this secret with you? Let me see, 10 years ago he had held no political office, I do not think he had run for the senate, the Olympic deal was not in the works on his radar screen.

Alleged? Can you support why it was alleged?

Well let me see......NO.
Was his involement directly related to his presidential run and if so what role did the Mormon elite play in this happening?
Well let me see again........NO and......None.
That settles that. Any more conspiracy theories today you need to get off your chest?

I know chess players try to see as many moves ahead as they possibly can. But I just don't see the SLC Olympics having been thought out in advance as some way of furthering a potential Presidential run by Mitt Romney. This comes across, to me, as just way to conspiracy theoryesque. I'm not big on conspiracy theories.

First off, people really don't care about the silly olympics, much less the MO'lympics.
BUT, I think Mercury may be onto something...

Romney ran against Kennedy for the Senate in 1994.

Who decided who would take over the Olympics? And who had input into that decision?
Without that information, this theory is dead in the water.
