Why Isn't This Board More Popular?
If the number of votes in the recent polls posted on this board correlates at all to the number of active posters, there are currently only between 30-40 regular users of this board. Boards like MAD and RfM enjoy numbers significantly greater, but, generally speaking, Mo's don't like RfM because they can't defend the Church, and critics don't like MAD because of its restrictive moderation policies. It seems MormonDiscussions would be an ideal place for those who want a board where both sides can post freely, yet it is frequented by only a few dozen. What gives? Do folks just not know about this place?

I think most people don't want to engage in discussion. Most people just want to hang around with people who confirm their positions.

I personally blame the strange vending machines found in the Shady Acres lobby. I've been petitioning for a nice microwave and a full line of the Hot Pockets brand snack foods. As of yet I have received no reply from the powers that be.

I don't think it's all that hard to figure, Dwight.

Thanks Dwight,
I frequented MD and enjoyed it much more a year ago when it wasn't a little fishbowl overlooking the ocean.
MD needs a couple more guidelines:
1) Close a thread after 5 pages.
Nobody reads 23 pages (!) to get up to speed to comment intelligently. So who is commenting on page 24? Good grief.
2) Stay on topic. There is a lot of ADD from some of the members here.
3) Draw the line on derails. I am amazed at how many here bite at all of the intentional derails by posters like DCP. He knows what he's doing. I'm surprised so many fall for it.
4) If you don't want to stay on topic, don't be such a wussie. Start your own thread.
5) Limit individual posts to ?? 40 a week. Maybe this will promote quality over quantity.

I may decide to look into that ignore feature. I don't think too many people care to read that trash you post, Antishock8.

antishock,
bad form, angry man.
gaz & bc,
I can see why you would see to derail this particular topic. You don't like this place. I imagine this is your ultimate goal.
Jersey Girl,
Derails would be much less frequent if you didn't fall for nearly every one of them.

What derails are you thinking of, Inc? I didn't mention anything about derails on this thread.
Could you be more specific?

Or they don't like spending their free time being insulted by the many morons who inhabit this board. If you fight back with their weapons they accuse you of not being true to your faith so you either take it or fight back and get insulted anew. Add the ridiculous caricatures in and you wonder why you come.
Then one day you realize that the people you're spending time online reading and responding to are people who if they treated you like this in real life you would shun them and so would most of civilized society. Then you wonder why you showed up and leave.
