About the Contributors

I would imagine that FARMS Review 20/1 will be going out to those who have ordered the hard copy version within the next week or two. (Please don't start calling the Maxwell Institute office immediately, wondering where your copy is. Most copies haven't arrived yet, and it takes a while.) And the contents of the Review should be available on line within a few weeks, as well.

I just renewed my subscription to Church News and Ensign, I need to get a subscription to the FARMS review too. I just need to figure out how to sneak it past the wife. ;)

Are the "Book Notes" actually book reviews?

I notice there's something about Jeff Meldrum under "Book Notes" ... what's that about?

Also, what's with the big text, Dr. Peterson? Is the actual table of contents in the Review printed in such eye-popping fashion? Ouch.

On an unrelated note, one of the quotes from Elder Maxwell on the FARMS homepage references the finding of the golden plates. But I love how the word "find" is in quotes.

http://farms.BYU.edu/ (random Neal Maxwell quote appears, so you probably won't see it; it says "The golden plates are history's most stunning 'find' in the field of religion" - Neal A. Maxwell)

I notice Sam Harris is being reviewed again. Is this because Michael Jibson's review was embarrasingly lousy? Can you guarantee I won't feel like I've just huffed paint thinner after reading this attempt?

Are they 'found' again?
As far as I know, the last event is that they have disappeared.

- To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei

I seriously cannot wait to read this article. I wonder who the intended audience could be.

Ronan Head, "A Brief Survey of Ancient Near Eastern Beekeeping"

Is this the same article that appeared online back in February?

Terryl Givens, "'Common-Sense’ Meets the Book of Mormon"

A reprint of his article that appeared in Revisiting Thomas F. O'Dea's the Mormons?

Larry Morris, "Elder Ezra Taft Benson’s Incredible Experiences in Postwar Europe," a review of Frederick Babbel, On Wings of Faith

A review of the 1972 book? Why?

Richard Williams, "Faith, Reason, Knowledge, and Truth"

A reprint of his 2000 BYU devotional?

ROFL!!!! I guess we'll have to wait and see, but, if FARMS is just recycling old material at this point....Well, what would that mean? Would it count as a "watershed" moment?

Edited to add: It would seem that they are short-staffed at the Maxwell Institute:

Daniel Peterson wrote:There was a notable reorganization of the Maxwell Institute's editorial department, and we lost our long-time production editor to the Collected Works of Hugh Nibley. That put us off our game. But we're working hard to get yet another issue out in fairly short order, and to return to our planned schedule of publication.

With their massive budget, one wonders why this was the case. Perhaps DCP took too large a slice of this pie this fiscal year?
