Chile Earthquake Revelation by MP's Wife

A friend's TBM family emailed him a story about the MP's wife in Chile having a "revelation" that an earthquake was about to occur. The MP and his wife spent a week or so before the earthquake visiting every missionary's apartment to "check for safety" and to review emergency procedures, including advising them to have a "go-bag" (emergency kit). They didn't tell the missionaries their reasons as they "didn't want to scare them". (Personally, I always have less fear when I know what to expect than having it left to my imagination. Obviously, you'd know something was up if the MP and his wife came by to check on your safety etc).

Now the MP is preparing for a big baptism month in Chile, partly due to this so-called revelation. It will likely cement a few testimonies amongst the mishies too, not to mention with the MP, his wife, and everyone they tell this story to, including all the Mormons who hear about it and all the people they send the story to.

My friend is wondering how he can discuss this with his TBM family to show there might be other explanations for what apparently happened here. Besides it being a "revelation", there are other possible rational explanations, such as premonition, subconscious heightened state of awareness due to the recent earthquake in Haiti, Chile being a known quake zone, or ???

In particular, my friend was hoping to "debunk" this with his TBM family. I'm thinking that's a tall order as it would be impossible to present objective evidence that the MP's wife did not receive this warning (obviously she at least thinks she did as they acted upon it, which is "evidence" on their side) or evidence that it was not a "prompting" to help them keep their people safe.

Any thoughts?

Without casting judgment on the revelation, I would argue that a prediction that comes true is not a validation of an entire belief system. Lots of people have had their predictions come true. I am not signing up to join their organizations. I would have to join millions.

Sounds to me more like validation that women should get the priesthood. Image

Why couldn't any those qualify as revelation? Makes sense to me that God would use the avenues available for the Spirit to deliver His message.

Your friend is probably an antiMormon.

I don't think most women would want themselves exposed to the various callings that go along with having the priesthood. So likewise, I certainly wouldn't want myself to be exposed to getting pregnant.

;)

He isn't actually. He would just like to see his family validated in their beliefs by objective evidence of something, anything.

But thanks for your input.

Gilded cage argument fail.

My pastor had a baby during her tenure as senior pastor. Haven't heard her complain about it yet.

Example fail. Your pastor isn't a man.

Reality fail. It's impossible for men to have babies. It is possible for women to be ordained.
