It will make for an inspirational fireside someday when the ladies are married and with a brood of five or six kids.

Hopefully, the organizers won't schedule Steve Young at the same fireside. What a conflict of messages and values!

Having children in high school sports and cheer, I am always amazed at how inflexible the programs are to the actual needs of the students. Even when I lived in Dallas, Sunday participation was a big no no for nonLDS kids.

It sounds like there is only one Sunday competition. Two girls miss it so what? You have to be flexible and adjust your routine for just one competition.

Well, I understand the Sunday thing, but I think the girls and their families could have been a lot more flexible around the Monday night practices. I half expected to see another sentence, "And then when they said we were practicing on Wednesday nights, too, and that was the same night as Young Women's activities, well, we just knew we had to tell the coaches that we'd not compromise by practicing on Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays, not to mention the weekend of Young Women's camp, the Friday night Mutual Dances, and the Tuesday night dessert auction. We just had to take a stand..."

Sometimes, we LDS get a little ridiculous in our demands.

I'm all for people standing up for their beliefs. It does show character. I've never heard of someone refusing to practice on Mondays because of Family Home Evening, though.

Yeah, FMH can be moved. When I was a kid, we did it Sunday night because everyone was so busy during the week with extracurricular activities. You have to be a TBM nazi to insist Monday nights are sacred because of FMH.

We started doing in on Sunday as well when we lived in Texas for the same reason. We have continued that here in Utah. I don't think there's a mandate that you have to have FHE on Mondays, but I haven't checked lately.

For some reason I've now got the Chariots of Fire theme running through my head.

If someone really believes the church is true and therefore won't compete on Sunday, kudos to them.

My thought is: if you can't participate to the expected level, then don't turn out. No one has to roll over for you.
