Great question - "Why are facts Anti-Mormon?"

Post by _Drifting »

When will the Mormon Church stop labeling historical fact as anti-Mormon?

Probably about the same time that they learn snarky, dismissive, attacking the messenger responses in the comment section don't help their position either.

"Why are facts Anti-Mormon?"

1. Because facts are not the same thing as truth.

2. Facts can be used to either lie or tell the truth by "how much" facts you tell and the "kind" and by what you omit. In other words, able to misrepresent the truth by creating FALSE CONCLUSIONS.

3. Fact can be used to either lie or tell the truth by "how you present" the facts, the "additional" things you add to them or omit. In other words, able to misrepresent the truth by creating FALSE CONCLUSIONS.

4. In relation to the above two, the main tactic by anti-mormons is to create "strawmen". They create a false premise on some facts and then tear it down. The strawman never was the "truth". It had some facts, but never the truth.

5. Because not all facts are "facts" at all. They are outright lies.

For example.... Do you believe Iraq did not have and/or there were "no WMD's found" there, and that Saddam had no significant relations with Fanatical Islam in his country or without?
Those are "facts" right? After all, everyone knows they are "true" and just the simple facts???

Guess what, it's a complete LIE.....

Do a simple Google search for "wmds were found in Iraq".
After weeding through all the lying articles and the obsolete 9/11 report, you will find several articles which LIST in full detail Saddam's contacts and support with Fanatical Islam in and out of country, you will find a listing of all found instances of WMD's within Iraq (several in fact), nearly all occurring the last couple of years of the war, you will also find that the "huge" stockpiles were shipped out prior to the war to Syria.

And no, these aren't some some nobody stating these things, actual government and military reports are quoted, all the necessary information.

Likewise for Mormonism.... There are certain "facts" the majority believe, that simply are not facts at all. They are a child's "surface reading" that only focuses on the negative and omits much to make it the most negative.

Anti-mormonism and liberals are like 9/11 "truthers". They have their "facts", many in fact making a convincing argument, but their facts are not the truth because they ultimately consist of one or more of the above points/aspects.

Ldsfaqs is right. If you continue to use logical conclusions based on facts, and those logical conclusions make the church look bad due to current social values, then yes - it is anti Mormon. A Mormon friendly conclusion should ignore logic and "reasonable person tests" and instead use weasel phrases like "prophet's opinion", "normal for his time" and "the motives for your question are disingenuous".

In Mormonism the facts are not the problem. But how one interprets the facts is the problem. Bushman's book created no problem because it was written in a faith promoting way. And it was sold in church bookstores. The same with the new Brigham biography. It is being sold in church bookstores.

It is not the facts but the interpretation of intent.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

Yeah that's right...

So when God set forth death penalties in the Bible... He really meant ...forgive them.

And when Brigham said kill the adulterer he meant... forgive them.

& when God inspired Joseph to write Jacob2, what he really meant was D&C132.

Or is it the way I am interpreting it???

OBLIVIOUS!? or MORON!?

The old cliché that history is written by the victors is true. Why? because the victor can control the interpretation of facts. In the case of Mormonism there are no victors or losers. There are just facts which if a critic can interpreted in ways that can create doubt. And for the faithful, the interpretation that one can give can be faith promoting.

Here is what we have with Mormonism: a church with a good value system that if lived correctly would not make the world a worse place. Just the opposite. And this is why it has survived for almost 200 years.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.
