4 SOX The Value Of God

Post by _Nightlion »

1. To feel the love of God and return our whole heart in love and devotion in a nurturing relationship that lives and breathes in a daily give and take vitality.
2. Obviously that we have a Father giving us kinship with all of mankind.
3. Being made in the likeness of the Divine is exalting and noble to cause us to strive towards a greater soul.
4. To be healed of our weaknesses and sins and manifold imperfections that mar our existence as we are led purposefully and patiently toward this end while striving to remember the Lord in all our ways and in all our days.(the more diligently we seek him the closer he remains with us)
5. To have a guided life cast ahead of us so much better tailored for whom we truly are than we could possibly cobble together for ourselves seeking our lusts only.
6. To have that which is most substantial and vital to share with others in a meaningful commerce of love and service.
7. To learn truths that can only be discerned in faith.
8. To give praise with all the heart, might mind and strength to a worthy God causing the souls to flourish like a well watered herb suddenly springing up to blossom and bud.
9. To know the Lord is that which is the most joyous to the soul of man.
10. To be enabled to stand against the rude blasts of cynicism, licentiousness, vileness, lugubriousness melancholy of over-learned arrogance, blasphemous abominations and vicious violence of lies, all unscathed.

Plus you get to put you own hand to miracles once in a while and get revelations sometimes out of the blue and prophecies happen though rare. Yet again those few prophecies actually save you years down the road when fantastic assaults are carefully planned for your undoing.

This is just off the cuff to boot. I should really take pause to think solemnly and ponderously over it. Challenge me and make me do better.

ETA: Oh, yeah  salvation and eternal life is good too.

What does the prefix "4 SOX" mean?
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

For soothe? Naw, a question sock puppet had on another thread asked the question of the value of belief in God.

Well written, Nightlion.

Thanks. I know I could write billions and billions of reasons as far and as the wide expanse of eternity and all the particles thereof each as I comprehend them.

I agree that as compared to a theist belief, I do not have that emotional comfort of thinking that an all powerful being is looking out for me. I think children that have imaginary friends are often comforted by the thought of these friends in ways that other children are not. (Please take no offense from some of the examples I may cite in these responses.)

Nightlion wrote:2. Obviously that we have a Father giving us kinship with all of mankind.

Do we need an understanding of a divine parent to feel a kinship with all of mankind? We have a common parent in the past, a link in the evolutionary chain. So that kinship exists from a biological perspective.

Nightlion wrote:3. Being made in the likeness of the Divine is exalting and noble to cause us to strive towards a greater soul.

As a role model, I think God is rather vague. He does not make his mode clearly known, leaving much of the discernment of his mode to guessing, or suggestion from fellow men, some with most dubious motives.

Nightlion wrote:4. "[P]urposefully". That's the crux of what I was asking, and to which Ray responded here. I perceive underlying Ray's response there that he finds this life, outside of the context of a possible afterlife, to be unsatisfactory. For Ray, it seems that if there is nothing at the end of this life, that makes this life meaningless. That however supposes there is no meaning in the present, unless there is a future. I find the present inherently meaningful if I enjoy it rather than waste it.

Nightlion wrote:5. To have a guided life cast ahead of us so much better tailored for whom we truly are than we could possibly cobble together for ourselves seeking our lusts only.

Our lusts might be messy, but they are just as much an integral part of us and this life as are our nobler aspects. I think I've filed down a prickly point or two of my personality over time. Some remain, and disserve my goals, psychologically and socially.

Nightlion wrote:6. To have that which is most substantial and vital to share with others in a meaningful commerce of love and service.

I see significant acts of charity by non-believers. I only see God coming into play in instilling fear of God's wrath if I do not.

Nightlion wrote:7. To learn truths that can only be discerned in faith.

What truths require a lack of evidence for them in order to be learned?

Nightlion wrote:8. To give praise with all the heart, might mind and strength to a worthy God causing the souls to flourish like a well watered herb suddenly springing up to blossom and bud.

We humans do have an emotional need to be devoted to, if not obsessively/compulsive about, something.

Nightlion wrote:9. To know the Lord is that which is the most joyous to the soul of man.

Then it seems quite odd that he makes himself so obtuse. By doing so, he is intentionally depriving our souls from being most joyous.

Nightlion wrote:10. To be enabled to stand against the rude blasts of cynicism, licentiousness, vileness, lugubriousness melancholy of over-learned arrogance, blasphemous abominations and vicious violence of lies, all unscathed.

You do exemplify this notion very well. You are like the Old Testament prophets.

Like the Carthage Jail?

You do quite well without being challenged.

I hope for you that the salvation and eternal life for which you have been and are working is an afterlife that is awarded to you.

At first, I thought "SOX" in the title of the thread was referring to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act that applies to corporate governance, accounting, etc.

You misread the story. Both Joseph and Hyrum craved a Carthage rather than live the intolerable reality of LDS hypocrisy. Neither wanted to live polygamy openly. You see polygamy and 'as man is God once was and as God is man may become' were foisted upon the Gentiles of the Restoration to KEEP them a people long enough for faith to come into the world that COULD realize the power of Zion. ( Long enough for God to do his own work) Because they did not LOVE the truth strong delusion, that they believe a lie, was put upon them.

Polygamy is not so much a lie as Eternal Progression but it helps seat the megalomania of the lie. If you understand. Otherwise the LDS would have been a lost footnote in Americana folklore. Book of What?
