This is all based on this:

As a child, [Alice Merrill ] Horne would spend time at her grandmother's home, listening to the elderly women of Mormondom reminisce about the early days of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Radke-Moss said. "She then wrote about those visits 50 years later in the 1930s, where she recalled hearing those women discuss the rape of Eliza.

Tenuous at best. Not something that warrants the headline that she ACTUALLY was raped as if it were a confirmed fact. The language should be much more careful. All we can deduce from this is that she MIGHT have been raped, IF what Horne heard when she was a child was interpreted correctly by her. They sat around and discussed a brutal rape in front of a child? I'm skeptical. Not that it might have happened, (anything is possible) but that this evidence is sufficient to warrant putting it out as they have with such assurance.

So you don't believe Mormon women were being raped back in the days of the Missouri mobs?

The claims presented go beyond that and attempt to whitewash the obscene nature of Joseph's polygamy by making it out to be an act of charity towards Eliza. Muddy the waters surrounding polygamy indeed.

It was also said that they fed Jo and Hyrum human flesh. Again, I'm skeptical of that, too for the same reasons.

Mormon founder Joseph Smith "offered her marriage as a way of promising her that she would still have eternal offspring and that she would be a mother in Zion."

Wow.

If anything, Joe found a sister he could have sex with all he wanted without worry that his wife Emma would find out, due to pregnancy!

She didn't say that. She said that it was skeptical a brutal rape would be discussed in front of a child, particularly during that time frame. The culture was very reserved at that time. Discussions around children were not nearly that open as a rule.

Yes but, what was Eliza Snow wearing? Was she one to expose the bottom of her ankle?

It might also help modern Latter-day Saints "rethink, or at least complicate, the origins of plural marriage," Radke-Moss said. For Snow, polygamy was about "spiritual comfort following a savage crime that made her infertile, and a protective measure in the context of trauma and sexual violence that Mormon women experienced."

What, specifically, is Radke-Moss suggesting here with regards to the origins of Joseph's polygamy?
“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')
