Oliver Cowdery tries to translate- from what?

Post by _SuperDell »

Oliver Cowdery bugged Joseph Smith about translating and when he finally had the chance he failed.

Translate- From WHAT?

Did Oliver have the Plates in front of him?
Did he wear the breastplate and glasses of the Urim & Thummim?

Darn those nitty gritty details. As Joseph said, "it was not intended to tell the world all the particulars of the coming forth of the Book of Mormon" (Oct. 1831) Joseph did not intend to tell the world all the particulars of just about anything.

If one believes the story at all.

In all likelihood, from nothing' as the plates were not being used by Joseph Smith to translate and what ever prop he had created for the plates was under a rag or not even in the room.

He used his sprout. And please don't ask, I have no idea how one uses a stick to pretend to translate, of course maybe OC didn't either and that may explain why he failed.

He ran into more problems than he could shake his stick at.

And don't forget .... The response from "God" was that Oliver must study it out in his mind before he would be able to "translate". Study WHAT out? The dictation was supposed to have been received as revelation.

But of course, we know it was Joseph's lying, deceitful BS at work.

I wonder how Smith fared before God during his life review after he died. How embarrassing and scary it would be to face the Diety you professed to serve, knowing that you faked all of your revelations, claiming they came directly from God.
