"God Picks LDS leaders, And He Never Gets It Wrong." Eyring

Post by _Everybody Wang Chung »

Henry Eyring wins the award for the most head scratching quote of the day:
God chooses the men he wants to lead the LDS Church — and it’s never a mistake... It takes faith to believe that [God] knows the people he calls perfectly. http://www.sltrib.com/religion/local/20 ... ring-says/

If what Eyring says is true, then I guess God sometimes intentionally calls leaders to positions of trust while knowing they are going to sexually abuse and molest children.

I would imagine that Eyring's talk was very offensive to the many thousands (if not more) of victims.

To borrow a quote from the late great Elder Packer, "Why would a loving God do that to his children?"

The worst analogy of the day goes to Elder Renlund:
Priesthood is a rocket that delivers a payload of Christ's atonement. https://www.deseretnews.com/article/865 ... night.html

Good grief. The analogy kind of sounds like the title of a porn film.

Thanks Everybody Wang Chung,

I watched the priestly session too. The kids wee running around having the merriest time. seeing their joy I didn’t have it in me to ask them to quiet down, but I did catch the exact ideas and quotes you shared and I agree. Worst analogy and the head scratcher awards.

Felt like Erying was trying to argue that we Mormoms ought to follow leaders because of revelation, and that the revelatory nature of their calls is all we regular members need to know or care about. I wonder if he or others in the Big 15 feel some insecurity about the issue of late.

My bishops over the years may or may not have been called by revelation. Only God knows that. However, there is probably a better argument on why I should sustain them - or any leader who is sincerely and humbly trying to lift and serve. Namely, that we are commanded to love one another, even faltering, maybe-not-called-by-revelation bishops.

But back to reality now... I have lived long enough in the church to understand that most leaders are called for pragmatic reasons, friendships with their own leaders, family relationships, business ties, and so on and so forth.

Does it bother me? Well, if I weren't so apathetic about it all I believe it would...

Gaslighting rears its ugly head once again from the church's chief organizational (manipulator) behavioral specialist. I wonder how often he reviews the Asch conformity experiments? Once a week?

Also, are we back to infallibility claims, at least in chosing leaders? Does this "perfection" apply to lower positions like sunday school teacher? Boy scout leader?

Is this part of a silencing effort directed at certain victims of leadership abuse? I wonder where the indian placement abuse cases are?

In any event, Eyring has to be drinking too much coke in celebration of byu's policy change.

Perhaps it was a Quorum challenge to see who could deliver those lines with a straight face. I could almost see Elders Paul H. Dunn and John C. Bennett slapping Elder Eyring on the back (with their spiritual hands) and congratulating him on completing the challenge.

Making obviously erroneous statements is not helping President Eyring's credibility. Gas lighting only works if its credible. This is like trying to fix a dam with sandbags of dogmatism, when they should be opening the spillways of honesty.
