Good grief. The analogy kind of sounds like the title of a porn film.

Not surprisingly, Scott Lloyd just changed the title of his article in the Deseret News from yesterday's "Priesthood is a Rocket that Delivers Payload of Christ's Atonement" to the less porny sounding "Elder Dale G. Renlund: The Priesthood and the Savior's Atoning Power": https://www.deseretnews.com/article/865 ... Power.html

I don't know what's funnier, that he started with that headline, or that he had to have someone else point out to him what was inappropriate with it.

Don't they vet these talks in advance? or is the reviewing panel secretly opposed and so they just let them sabotage themselves?

Seems like Mormons long to be another brick in the wall. When they aren't aspiring to be social insects. They also provide an endless source of bad metaphors. And TTCs. (Thought terminating cliches) Have to calm the flock. Keep them moving through the shearing stations and on to the slaughterhouse.

Is that why LDS won't give women the priesthood?

Was it rocket size envy that was behind the black ban?

 My never-mo husband says Renlund sub-consciously got that term "payload" from his porn watching.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Eyring's statement is actually very helpful to the ex-mo cause.

How many apologists squirm when confronted with examples of Mormon leaders doing nefarious things? Eyring has just confirmed that God has personally called those individuals to their positions of authority in the church. The question for Mopologists now is why does God keep calling pedophiles, adulterers, fraudsters, and idiots to positions of responsibility in his one true church? Personally, my ethical code prevents me from following any god who thinks this is appropriate. If you're an active Mormon, my question is why do you follow such a sick, sadistic god? I mean, now that the god is left without excuse, what's yours?

God chooses the men he wants to lead the LDS Church — and it’s never a mistake... It takes faith to believe that [God] knows the people he calls perfectly. http://www.sltrib.com/religion/local/20 ... ring-says/

He’s talking about and to himself and his fellow Apostles. He’s also responding to the fact that the senior leadership has lost, keeps losing, credibility with the members with every decision they make. He’s actually chastising the members for not sustaining him and his colleagues.

He also said, in reference to forthcoming world events:
We cannot foresee the details, but we know the larger picture.

Which seems an odd thing to say when he wants the members to sustain him as a Prophet, Seer and Revelator.

This is another example of President Eyring pushing the "everything done at church is by revelation" message.

Not long ago, he was pronouncing the idea that every calling should be accepted because it is of God.

This appears to be just the flip side of the same coin.

"Leaders aren't perfect, but you need to follow them because they are called of God."

Which doesn't seem too far away from, "Do what God commands you to do, and even if it is wrong, you will be blessed."
