I'm now waiting for the day when simply because the Church "investigates" these plates and claims, maybe even having the Prophet look at them, and then the church dismissing it all, and then anti-mormons claim:

"See, the prophet was deceived, the Church can't be true, prophets are fallible."

When nothing of the sort happened, for that is a misrepresentation of what actually happened.

The Church is obviously never going to investigate these plates. Why? Because the leaders have enough common sense to realize that any serious documentary discovery that makes the Church look divine is fraudulent. Their full expectation is that legit documents will only support their suspicion deep down that the Church is a crazy man-made institution. That's why Hoffman tricked them so easily (into buying, not just 'investigating'), because they were so worried about it all being a crazy fraud, that they too easily bought into documents that confirmed exactly what they expected.
