Missionaries to be called and sent out despite Covid-19

Post by _I have a question »

Missionaries will continue to be called to serve and assigned to labor in missions worldwide. Missionary recommendations will continue to be received, and missionary assignments for worldwide service will continue to be made.

Seems a bit foolhardy given the global emphasis on suppression by restriction of movement and social interaction.

We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')

This exposes the real reason for missions, that of indoctrinating the missionary. One becomes more converted to nonsense the more one is forced to stand up and say it. It works with almost anything. Then conversion becomes more entrenched the more people call out the nonsense, forcing the poor missionary to defend the nonsense.

The LDS church will likely include longer lag times between issuing the "calling" and when the prospective missionary is to report for service--time calculated to let the virus wave pass. Having a letter with Nelson's machine-applied signature in their hands will make it more difficult for the 18 year old boys and 19 year old girls to reconsider and choose a different path for the next 2 years or 18 months, respectively. There will be social pressure--"God wants you to go in September to XXX. God has given you this extra time to read and study the scriptures and get ready." But it is, as Dr Exiled implied, revealing of the real purpose of their missionary program.
"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." 2 days later...
Most of the Latter-day Saint missionaries in Africa will go home to self-isolate for two weeks and then receive temporary reassignment to other missions around the world, according to a release issued Wednesday evening.

Church leaders reached the decision due to the COVID-19 pandemic and new travel regulations implemented by African governments.

Church leaders took the same action Tuesday with 23 missions in the Philippines. They also sent home all nonnative missionaries from Mongolia on Feb. 27 and from South Korea on March 5.

The church shut down its Hong Kong Mission in early February.

They don't even have regular foresight, let alone special seership...
