Is Kwaku ok?

Post by master_dc »

I haven't paid much attention to Kwaku and the Midnight Mormon's crew in about a year. Last night I saw ion Twitter that he was posting up a storm that he was just released from ward and was held against his will for a week. The tweets then rail into how evil psychiatry is, how they can arrest people, he was refused food or drink for 15 hours...

I feel for the guy and what he went through. Has anything significantly changed with him these past 12 months?

Well, his Midnight Mormon show has recently devolved into something very similar to Coast to Coast.

The shows now are typically about werewolves, vampires, witchcraft and the paranormal. All faith promoting material.

Ahh the poor guy. Sounds like he's gone through it a bit with mental illness.

I wonder how putting his life on display like this will impact his long-term ability to provide for himself. He’s really limiting the associations he’ll need to make his way in this world.

He was committed, so I’m pretty confident that no, Kwaku is not OK.

12A. the doctors hate you. i truly wish i was being hyperbolic with this next part, but the first psychiatrist i met with, Dr. Derry L. Brinley, berated, mocked, insulted and abused me in a a 7x7 room. i was told by Dr. Derry Brinley that we have no freedom in the psych ward, that we have no power, and the patients are not as smart at the Doctors. i told him i had to leave to oversee an event for my company (if the event bombed i would lose tens of thousands of dollars.)
Dr. Derry L. Brinley used to be my brother-in-law's Stake President.

Kwaku is now claiming he was abused by Dr. Brinley? Good grief.

Someone who cares about Kwaku needs to step in and take away his Twitter privileges before this gets out of hand.

Is this the guy Scott Gordon/FAIR hitched their wagon to with the infamous TITS videos?

First, Kwaku, if you ever read this, I hope you get out of whatever mess you are in and find peace and health.

This is a serious situation, and I am somewhat surprised by it. One wonders how things got to this point. I have never had the impression that Kwaku was the most solidly grounded person. His comments in discussions of Mormon things are sometimes somewhat concerning, and I say that in addition to thinking that he is not the deepest thinker in LDS apologetics.

But not everyone has to be, and he certainly seems to have appealed to a segment of people who look for a charismatic and glib approach to defending Mormonism.

I know I was not extremely flattering of you in this post, Kwaku, but I still wish you well. Get better soon!

Ooph, that’s rough. I sincerely echo Kish in wishing Kwaku (should he read and/or become aware of this thread) a hope for peace and health.

In-patient mental health facilities – at least the type that average people have access to – are often more of an emergency triage meant for protection rather than healing. I’m sorry he found his experience traumatizing, and even more so that he is (hopefully only temporarily) associating that experience with the entirety of the medical profession of psychiatry.

Even being in one voluntarily can feel in moments like you are being abandoned or exploited by the institution. Where your own well-being takes backseat to a myriad of other factors. Being involuntarily there, without the ability to maintain any meaningful contact with the “outside” world, can be terrifying. I hope this can morph into a first step towards something positive for him.
