Hi all, I'm a newbie here so most likely need some guidance, I hope I don't offend anyone with my question.

I'm an ex-Mormon and like to discuss about spirituality or churches. This morning I came across Mary Ann Benson's article about how she and her ex-husband, the famous cartoonist Steve Benson, left Mormonism. It was a touching read. Strangely, however, I've tried to find her whereabouts right now and couldn't find any bit of related information. When I posted on the RfM boardroom, twice the question got deleted. All I wanted was just whether she was doing ok now.

So... it seems I've asked a question that is highly sensitive? Awkward? Can anyone help me understand? Appreciate it.

I see a few obits. Is she even still alive?

All the obits I found were too old or didn't fit her information like birth place (she was born in Idaho). She must be around the same age as Steve, her ex-husband, so should be around 1952-55.

I don’t understand the background to your, ehm, premise? What happened to cause you to ask this question?

I think it's the fact that my question on RfM about her was deleted--twice, without explanation, like I said. In Mary Ann's article, it's like them against the whole church and his clan (esp. his mom); they broke off their engagement twice but eventually got back together and fought so hard for their love for each other. I thought it was such a touching love story. Steve's mom predicted vehemently, almost like a curse, that the marriage wouldn't last. Their marriage lasted 30 years with 4 children.

But then the divorce--and it's not necessarily anyone's fault. But I simply would like to see how she's doing right now. In my opinion, not every story must have a happy ending, but at least I'd like to know that everyone is in a good place.

And now my question about her got deleted, it really makes me think that someone seems to not be happy about her, maybe? Which is sad if that's really the case.

That’s interesting. I haven’t followed anything Steve wrote since I was banned from RFM, like, I dunno, 15 years ago. I’m sorry to hear he and his wife are or were having difficulties.

I dunno. It was a long time ago. I was probably an asshole (more so than I normally am), and the power tripping mod there dropped the ban hammer.

What brings you to this board? Wait, are you Markk?

No, I don't know Markk, sorry. I was searching for Mary Ann's information and found some messages here. It was long ago though.

Yeah, guess every board might have a mod or two like some power play.
