The Mormon church has lost all moral authority in the world. It is fast becoming a meme, for being exposed as structurally corrupt and unabashedly hypocritical. It is incapable of demonstrating genuine repentance. Hell, even the CEO of Crowdstrike found the courage to just apologize after a painful mistake. Having failed to establish anything remotely close to credibility as a global beacon of integrity, the church can only depend on money to support and defend itself. That money produces more money, and far far more than is needed to run the church. Hopefully they’ll do more good in the world with the excess. Although you can buy anything in this world with money, the information age is a cruel master and the church is learning that the things it covets most — good image, trust, respect — are not for sale.

The Church knows that the more money it has the more influence it has in the world.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” - Matt 6:21

This one verse goes a long way in explaining the actions and focus of COB. It's almost like the church part is an afterthought.
