What is Nelson actually saying?

Post by I Have Questions »

At General Conference Nelson said:
“Here is my promise to you: Every sincere seeker of Jesus Christ will find him in the temple. You will feel his mercy. You will find answers to your most vexing questions. You will better comprehend the joy of his gospel,”

Which begs some questions.
If you didn’t find Jesus in the temple, is Nelson saying you lacked sincerity?
If you’re a sincere seeker of Jesus Christ but don’t have access to a Mormon temple, is Nelson saying you cannot find him anywhere else?
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

What he is actually saying is:

"We are building all these lavish buildings and you people better use them."

What he actually means is:

"Our research shows that the ROI on temples, in tithing, is a net positive."

I think he might be sending a message to those members that have experienced discomfort in their temple visits. He’s blaming them for being uncomfortable with the ordinances of the temple. Keep in mind there’s a number of complaints highlighted by Spotlight about abuses in the initiatory.

I think he’s trying to ensure that those big expensive buildings get more use.

Are complaints still happening about the initiatory? I thought that had been resolved since that process was changed. You wear your garments during the washing and anointing now. It has been that way for quite a while. When my daughter went through, she said that everything was actually very modest.
