Latter Day Saints strongly supported Trump

President-elect Donald Trump won over a large number of the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who voted in elections in early November.

According to Fox News’ 2024 election exit poll, among the Latter-day Saints surveyed 64% supported Trump and 32% supported Vice President Kamala Harris.

In Nevada, where Latter-day Saints made up 4% of voters surveyed, 79% of Latter-day Saints supported Trump compared to 19% for Harris. In Arizona, where Latter-day Saints again made up 4% of voters, 75% supported Trump and Harris received 24% support.

In Utah, where Latter-day Saints made up 52% of voters, 73% of Latter-day Saints supported Trump and 24% supported Harris.
I guess the Articles of Faith don’t count for much.

“We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.” …except when we’re seeking a President. Trump is the exact opposite of the traits listed in that Article of Faith. If Mormons really put their religion first, they could not have voted for Trump. Did they pray about their vote? What was the answer?

I think it is because Donald Trump reflects Mormon ideals. These ideals are not those of Christian niceties but of dog-eat-dog conservatism, where keeping the blood of America pure and delightsome still holds some sway. Besides, Kamala was not eligible for the priesthood; before 1978, she would not even be temple-worthy.

It was also believed that Trump would allow the religious liberty of the required 1000-foot tall temple spires to be placed in residential neighborhoods for an unspecified donation.

I expect we will soon see Jacob Hess and Dan Peterson apologize profusely for leading us all to believe that Mormons are incompatible with Trump and the MAGA movement.

Trump secures biggest win ever in Utah
The presidential race was called in Utah when Trump led with 54% of the vote on election night, Nov. 5. Based on these initial results, Utah was reported as being one of only two states in the country that did not shift toward Trump from 2020 to 2024.

But as counties updated their vote totals, it became clear that Utah had actually delivered Trump his biggest winning margin in the state ever, with an increase of more than 1 percentage point from four years earlier.

“Jacob Hess’ disingenuous article” wrote: Latter-day Saints are “caught in between,” David Campbell, founding director of the Rooney Center for the Study of American Democracy at the University of Notre Dame, told Sam Benson. “They feel like they don’t have a home right now in American politics”

Despite Dan Peterson and Jacob Hess’s claims to the contrary, Mormons feel right at home with MAGA.

I hope Dan and Jacob sit with that thought for some time.

White Mormons will never forgive Democrats for the dual sins of the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act.

Hi Drumdude, I read that Desert News article, I think I got all of it. It felt like seeing through very think Mormon glass, or maybe I was having trouble seeing through it. The article seemed to assume the reader understood what terrible things Biden did making the choice of Trump necessary to people put off by Trump. I really do not know what that would be talking about. The article mentioned ordering silver ware for the white house.

I suppose it is possible that there really is not much change from the creeping socialism destroying our country with broken moral rules leading to communism which was preached by ET Benson and others of course.

No surprise there.
Trump uses much of the same playbook Joseph Smith did.

Lots open to interpretation there.

“We believe all things, we hope all things.” Perhaps a bastardized translation taken out of context. But what does that really mean? It can’t be literal. I suspect this may be more Joseph Smith taking his idiosyncratic reading and creating new scripture out of it.
