The Fairview mayor getting the Zelenskyy treatment

Fairview mayor pleads with Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to avoid lawsuit

The mayor said he’d go to Utah if it means he can meet with a church leader about the height of the proposed McKinney Texas Temple.

In the ongoing dispute between a small North Texas town and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fairview Mayor Henry Lessner is pleading with church decision-makers to reach a “common understanding” and avoid a legal battle over the height of the McKinney Texas Temple.

“It is time that the LDS decision makers learn about our town, why we think it is special, why thousands of our residents are so passionate about wanting the LDS Church to follow our zoning laws, and the efforts made over the years to protect our environment and character of our town,” Lessner wrote in a statement Wednesday.
Perhaps on his trip to Utah, Elder Oaks can criticize the Fairview mayor for his choice of clothing and demand that the mayor thank the church for not making the steeple 1,000 feet tall.

A staggering number of Americans seem to lack the critical thinking skills required to see that Ukraine and the town of Fairview are victims. Victims of much larger bullies that can wear them down into submission. All while crying that the victim made them do it.

Russia is not a victim. The Mormon church is not a victim. They are the bullies.

No, I think it's only an extreme minority of Americans who don't see Ukraine and the town of Fairview as victims.

Shades, are you using the term 'extreme' in the sense they represent only a very small percentage of Americans or in the sense that their views are far right? Because, given the fact Trump won this last national election I would say there are a staggering number of people who support extreme views atm.

Wonder if people can make the connection between the Church and Donald Trump since both are victimizers who strive for power and wish to be obeyed.

I think he’s being technical and pointing out the number of people aware of the Fairview scandal is low, therefore he’s technically right that the total number who believe both things is low.

I’m using the term “and” in colloquial usage, technically I should have used the term “or.” The logical union of the two sets is what I’m talking about, not the intersection. To satisfy Shade’s penchant for accuracy. My assertion is that most of the people in the Trump side of the Venn diagram would easily support the Mormon position if they were aware of it.

I think a significant amount of Americans don't see Ukraine as a victim, and they swallow whole the Orange Money Grubber In Chief's baseless nonsense that he spouts every time he opens his narcissistic, self-interested obnoxious gob.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

The former. Americans vote for candidate X but disagree with candidate X’s opinion about one or more issues all the time.

I think the problem with the election was not the (apparent) popularity of Mr. Trump, but the actual indifference to Ms. Harris. Had the Democratic Party fielded a viable candidate I have no doubt the Mr. Trump would not be strutting his stuff in the White House now. His approval ratings are surprisingly dismal today, so soon in his term. Rarely do a President's approval ratings increase over time, with the typical exception being the invention of a national crisis such as a war. There is hardly anything as good as a war to boost one's reputation.

DCP recently voiced his support for Ukraine on his Facebook page. Kudos to him.

Over half of the comments were Mormons calling Ukrainians Nazis, saying “Ukraine has to stop the killing” and other idiotic pro-Russian propaganda talking points.

A lot of Trump supporters didn’t just vote for him. They absolutely love what he’s doing.

He who laughs last…
But the 7-0 vote set new conditions sure to be discussed Tuesday when the Fairview Town Council considers the church’s request for a conditional use permit to build one of its most sacred edifices in the town.

The commission recommended that the town council require the church to:
  • Reduce the steeple height to 68 feet, 3 inches, the same height as the church’s meetinghouse next to the proposed temple site.
  • Change the temple’s name from the McKinney Texas Temple to the Fairview Texas Temple.
  • Shut off the temple’s exterior lighting on Sundays, Mondays and holidays, when the temple is closed, and every other night between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.
