Has the Mormon Church laid the groundwork for the 2d Coming?
1. "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (Matthew 24:14).
I understand that there are Mormon missionaries in about 150 countries. According to the U.N., there are 195 countries in the world. Mormons have a ways to go: 45 more countries to be precise. And then, within a country, how much saturation does their have to be for it to have been preached unto that nation?
2. “Behold, I will hasten my work in its time” (Doctrine and Covenants 88:73).
So some of the big 15 are telling congregations that 2025 is the Lord's time. I thought no man was to know when it would happen.
3. “We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God” (Articles of Faith 1:9).
When was the last "great and important thing[] pertaining to the Kingdom of God" revealed?
4. “But verily I say unto you, I have decreed that your brethren which have been scattered shall return to the lands of their inheritances, and shall build up the waste places of Zion” (Doctrine and Covenants 103:11).
Is Zion actually Jackson County, MO, the Mormon Belt along I-15, from Idaho south to Arizona? Or somewhere else? Maybe The Donald's dream of turning the Gaza Strip into a beach front resort area is part and parcel to building up the waste places of Zion, especially since Israel just laid waste to the Gaza Strip over the last 16 months.
Elder Neil L. Andersen has said:
“[The] Lord promised that there would be a covenant people, a people eagerly awaiting His return, a people who stand in holy settings and are not moved out of their place. He spoke of a righteous people resisting the deceptions of the adversary, disciplining their faith, thinking celestial, and trusting completely in the Savior Jesus Christ.
“ … [Amid] the turmoil and temptations of the world, He has promised to strengthen and bless His covenant Saints, and His promises are being fulfilled!”
What is 'thinking celestial'? Is that a form of ponderizing?

The further I move past belief the more preposterous the whole thing is.

Are you asking whether the Church has sold the membership on this bogus idea? A Mormon, when told to bleat, will make a very loud bleat.

The church has a horrible track record when it comes to predicting the Second Coming.
Vaughn J. Featherstone was convinced the Second Coming would arrive before 2033 and even wrote a letter discussing the same. That letter is currently in the Atlanta temple time capsule to be opened and read in 2033. https://searchingfortherealtruth.blogsp ... -time.html
Joseph Smith also screwed the pooch about the Second Coming. On February 14, 1835, Oliver B. Huntington (and others) recorded that Joseph Smith had said that "God had revealed to him that the coming of Christ would be within 56 years." The official History of the Church records the same false prophecy.
In 1886 the Millennial Star quoted Apostle Moses Thatcher: "The time of our deliverance will be within five years; the time indicated [by Joseph Smith's "prophecy"] will be February 14, 1891."
Mormon writer Klaus J. Hansen made this staggering admission:
"1890 there was a widespread belief among Church members that Joseph Smith's prediction of 1835, that 56 years would "wind up the scene," would be fulfilled. But such enthusiasm was short lived. In 1903, Benjamin F. Johnson could not conceal his disappointment when he remarked that "we were over 70 years ago taught by our leaders to believe that the coming of Christ and the millennial reign was much nearer than we believe it to be now."

Try reading what you regard to be scripture.

Sure. Signs of the times. It sounded like you were saying that the leaders had said 2025 was the year to watch for. If that's not what you were saying, then OK.sock puppet wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 12:54 am"The Lord has not revealed exactly when He will come again: 'The hour and the day no man knoweth, neither the angels in heaven, nor shall they know until he comes.'3 But He has revealed to His prophets the events and signs that will precede His Second Coming. No man knows. Although I do believe that prophets can "see around corners" (nod to Sheri Dew)

And Jesus smiled upon his holy hedge fund giving credence to the profit mantra they espoused. For they had taken the learning of the world and were wise as serpents in all humility, earning holy lucre unto the Lord and had seen the vision of compound interest. They were a lonely people yet dedicated to the investment strategy that they saw when the golden heifer was in their midst. And the glory of the Lord shown brightly upon them and he said that he will surely come quickly when the leaves are tender and the investments are ripe for the taking.
Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.

So, perhaps later this year or next (2026) Jesus will appear and give us great investment returns after a period of darkness and lacking. For his holy investment fund will prevail, so sayeth the Lord.Dr Exiled wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 4:36 amAnd Jesus smiled upon his holy hedge fund giving credence to the profit mantra they espoused. The scriptures tell us that Christ's return will not happen until the Antichrist has maded his appearance. I guess we can check that one off the list.
