Mormons are capitalizing on the ongoing erosion of constitutional ideals, signing a deal with a public school board to build their indoctrination center right on campus.
It was likely helped along by several of the school board members being former graduates of BYU.

“We declare that from principle and policy, we favor:
The absolute separation of church and state;
No domination of the state by the church;
No church interference with the functions of the state;
No state interference with the functions of the church, or with the free exercise of religion;
The absolute freedom of the individual from the domination of ecclesiastical authority in political affairs;
The equality of all churches before the law.” (In Clark, Messages of the First Presidency, 4:153.)

Indeed, the proper separation of church and state has the effect of strengthening religious institutions and the broader community. To exert its positive influence, religious organizations and individuals must maintain space from government — physical, social and legal — to freely practice their faith. This enables religious institutions to express their message, determine who they are, and live out their convictions in meaningful ways. Religious space must continue to be respected, and religion should not be sequestered.

This from the article was interesting:
...The school district can lease the space to other, nonreligious organizations or use it for district purposes, he said...
Except for 6am to 6pm, Monday through Friday, when the LDS church is 'leasing' it.
My high school had an LDS seminary building directly across the street, but it wasn't on school property. Why is this happening? There must be something behind it. I'm sure it involves financially benefitting the LDS church, given their track record.

Board Rule #10
Do not EVER "link-and-run." If you post a link to something, always explain what's at the other end of the link, why it's important, and what you hope other readers / viewers learn from it. RULE OF THUMB: If it's not worth your time to describe it, then it's not worth our time to click on it.
I’ve reported your rule breach. Again.

I mentioned that the article has additional perspective. The original link would not even open on my computer as there was a paywall in place. For this reason, I added the additional link option. I would assume that because it was from a different outlet that it might add additional information to the article that I couldn't even link to.
If you feel like this is worth pursuing and making an issue out of, go for it. It would have been helpful for drumdude to link to a page that actually opens.
My link does. That should result in a "thank you!"

MG

Does this signal LDS willingness to aggressively push their agenda wherever they have some egress in the community? RLUIPA may let them pierce the separation of Church and State barrier.

It wasn’t behind a paywall for me. (I’ve just opened the link again, no problem). I don’t think it was behind a paywall for drumdude or Marcus or Moksha. Are you in some kind of secure facility with limited access privileges?
for what it's worth, I hit a paywall the first couple of times I tried the link. The third time I hit no paywall (the site just complained about my ad blocker). Just for kicks, I tried again and hit a paywall. (I had been fiddling with my VPN between attempts, which may have had something to do it.)
