I have to admit the style of this flyer seems a bit too 1935 for me:
But I should also note that there are genuine real concerns about the LDS church seeking (and steamrolling over opposition to) special exceptions to the building ordinances.
Temple architects have the capability to take a Frank Lloyd Wright approach and build a Temple that meets the nature of Flagstaff and not be an eyesore or source of light pollution; something that the Flagstaff community could feel a sense of pride about.
Not all Temples have to be based on a cookie-cutter design. Give the Flagstaffians something more as good PR.
The Mormon Church wants its temples to dominate and be a noticeable structure for miles around both day and night. They could design them as single story, unobtrusive buildings, but it’s not what happens inside them that’s important, it’s the external signalling that is the priority. Like kicking a chair over when you enter a room, or wearing a very loud tie, the Church is desperate for temples to get noticed.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

It does seem like an insecure bid for attention.
Old Rusty wants this to be his legacy. “I built a lot of expensive large white boxes.”

Nelson wants to be the one to usher in the Second Coming by announcing more temples than they can get built in both his and his successors' lifetimes. He’s stealing everyone’s temple thunder for himself. The Russia Temple announcement showed that.
