I wish I could say I was surprised by the constant unethical behavior of the Church.

February 2023
In June 2019, the SEC first expressed concern about Ensign Peak’s reporting approach. Ensign Peak adjusted its approach and began filing a single aggregated report. Since that time, 13 quarterly reports have been filed in full accordance with SEC requirements.

This settlement relates to how the forms were filed previously. Ensign Peak and the Church have cooperated with the government over a period of time as we sought resolution.

We affirm our commitment to comply with the law, regret mistakes made, and now consider this matter closed.
One assumes this is just a simple misunderstanding or The Widows Mite getting hold of the wrong end of the stick. I mean, the Church having been caught once, would ensure (with the help of The Lord who is in charge of these things, according to a recent essay issued by the Church) it was squeaky clean going forward, right?

I imagine this is how you become an apostle or area authority. Save the church 40-80 million dollars in tax fraud to prove your loyalty. Then you’re a “made man” in one of the world’s largest organized crime rings.

Is there any indication that this is “new news” that the IRS or SEC hasn’t already reviewed and investigated as part of the case that was settled?

This is an incredibly damning report. All of the apologetics about the SEC scandal end with reassurance there wasn’t any unfair financial advantage or tax fraud with the shell companies. Turns out, it looks like there was an enormous amount of tax fraud. Worse, it looks like they did it on purpose.

Laypeople may not be willing to wade through all 82 pages, but I’m pretty sure everyone over at the BYU accounting dept will do so.

Donning my MG 2.0 hat: "I would think that you all would be more on board with the idea that a rainy day fund is a good idea. Just good stewardship. Maybe we will just have to agree to disagree. But here is an A.I. prompt and answer showing that a rainy day fund is a goo..."

I must doff my cap to the folks at The Widow’s Mite. This is the sort of tidbit that is so damning that the Mopologists won’t touch it at all.

I'm guessing "in Dutch" means "in trouble?"
