I'd never heard of podcaster Shane Baldwin prior to this clip being posted to Reddit, but apparently he wanted to go on Mormon Stories but was refused, then John Dehlin & his co-host explained why. Mr. Baldwin reacted to their words with great umbrage, threatening to dust off his feet and/or strike John Dehlin dumb

What a fascinatingly bizarre religion this man believes in!
The original foot-dusting was a little different from what Mr. Baldwin imagines.
Matthew 10:
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Of course, because of the Great Apostasy we don't have an accurate account what Jesus really said to the Twelve. I mean, the complete version of verse 14 read:
14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, say unto them "Umm, there is this dust-shaking thing we have to do that will lead to all kinds of nasty stuff happening to you and yours in the long run. But we need your permission to do that thing. Is that OK with you?" Behold, If and only if they say unto you 'It's fine by us, go ahead' then shake off the dust of your feet.
I mean, that makes much better sense, doesn't it?

It’s embarrassing when Mormons talk like this. Like the magic priesthood is real, like the fictitious Korihor is real, like prophesy is real. That they have the power to curse people. Yuck. I’d expect it from 18 year old missionary boys. But from adults?
Just so much cringe.

Ah, yes, the priesthood power is to be used for smiting someone with a holy hex, but only if they first agree to the cursing. This is Exhibit A on how Mormonism can turn people into raving lunatics. How embarrassing. I'm sure John is having a good laugh over this.
This Shane guy is also a convicted felon who spent 5 years in prison. Nice!

He believes in another set of ancient writings. “The Book of the Nem”. He doesn’t believe Joseph Smith was a polygamist. He sells an oracle app to help motivate people toward spirituality. He travels around giving people blessings to heal them and cast out spirits.
In February he was given a no trespass warning letter from the LDS church. In March he was sent a letter from his Stake President that they were planning to try him in absentia for apostasy.
He did a live stream tonight to discuss it.

Without giving too much doxing information I had a person who is still living give our family a dusting of the feet curse. I lost a family member and he felt remorse that his curse did it. Salem witch trials never left us folks.

Mormonism breeds credulous believers. If you can be convinced that Jews sailed to the pre-Columbian Americas and built a huge civilization that disappeared without a trace, you’re a perfect target for scammers like him.
It’s why MLMs thrive in Utah. The vast majority of TBMs have severely impaired critical thinking skills.

Seems like a solid move on Shane's part given his likely political affiliations. Always bear in mind the class clown model and the bigger the fail = the bigger the win. What are the options? John takes him up on it, Shane performs the ordinance -- he mentioned dusting of the feet but said there was another name for it, no idea what he's talking about but I am curious -- and nothing happens. Option 1 is to declare victory anyway and point to either some minor thing or the underlying misery of John's wickedness or claim the Lord is staying his hand for a "little season" only to pack a larger punch down the road. Option 2 is to throw a tantrum when nothing happens, not claim victory nor concede the loss, but imply the loss and be a bad sport about it, but that performance people find entertaining and it inspires the Binger types to say things like, "this guy is a genius". It's kind of like the reflecting pool getting worse by the day.
The risk is that he may not have a large enough following to pull it off.

Victims are to blame if they don't forgive. If they refuse to forgive they are not being genuine LDS. Masterful move!
