Shulem, you should compile a top ten list, for this thread, as to why this Egyptus claim is really stupid. Maybe Symmachus could assist with the name etymology.
Let me tell you what would be even better. A collective body of world Egyptologists each offering a brief critique on the content of Abraham chapter one. Such commentary need not be long or overdone, simple authoritative statements made by qualified caretakers of the modern discipline of Egyptology. Gee & Muhlestein would have little choice but to sign off on it or abstain. Any apologetic effort to defend Smith's ideas of Egypt's making based on Book of Abraham chapter one would be an asinine and futile effort. It would do great disservice to the institution of BYU and make Mormonism look dumber than it already does.
In conclusion, chapter one of the Book of Abraham is an absolute disaster and *is* total fiction. It goes hand in hand with the silly interpretations and translations of the Facsimiles and demonstrates that Smith was willing to make anything up in order to serve his selfish desires and make him appear to be something he was not.
Let me tell you what would be even better. A collective body of world Egyptologists each offering a brief critique on the content of Abraham chapter one. Such commentary need not belong or overdone, simple authoritative statements made by qualified caretakers of the modern discipline of Egyptology.
Archeologists and historical geologists and paleontologists would have something to say about the creation of Egypt. Linguists would also have countervailing opinions on the Book of Abraham story.
I still like the idea of a top ten list for why this Egyptus claim is really stupid. It needs someone knowledgeable to put it together.
The author of the list could then be immortalized via a hit piece in the Interpreter.
Please grant a few minutes of your time for these ultimate slam dunks that destroy the Book of Abraham story! This is the most powerful argument against the historicity of the Book of Abraham. Slam dunk!
