I do so hope that you have nothing to go after.

It's a great story, but if he gets a lawyer, I'm not sure you would get away scot free on that deal. Especially, if you injured him beyond what was necessary to subdue him, if even that was necessary.
12 punches!? to the kidneys? for breaking into someone else's car?
I teach torts. If I was the guys' lawyer, I might take the case. Assuming you had something to go after.
I’m fairly confident that I wouldn’t have much to worry about. The kidney shots would most likely be viewed as self-defense as they were done immediately after he tried to ram my nose up into my brain. Also, there were no charges pressed (but, the officers did ask me if I wanted to press charges against him... which I declined).
The “body-checks” on the other hand… *shrugs*.
But, I agree it wasn't the smartest thing to do. Although the cops were pretty giddy over the fact that I got a "beat-down" on the dude, they mentioned that if he had a knife or something, it could have ended very differently.

I imagine if he had a knife you may have a small scar and a bloody shirt, but not much else being different. Most people don't know how to use knives, and it just makes them clumsy.

Even worse, if he had a thermo-nuclear device on him. They are incredibly hard to use with much precision.

That's why I never go a day without my Atom-Fu practice.

don't miss the ending, well, the 3/4 mark anyway.
