"There is clearly a sacred dimension to our existence, and coming to terms with it could well be the highest purpose of human life. But we will find that it requires no faith in untestable propositions - Jesus was born of a virgin, the Koran is the word of God - for us to do this. Sam Harris - End of Faith p 16 (paperback)

Sam, do you agree with the above quote? Do you agree that "spirituality" which you have mentioned requires no faith in untestable propositions?

No, you have "suspected" I'm fundamentalist and refuse to go away, which is worse. I do not list the other sites I frequent, because I don't want folks like you following me there.

I really don't care if GoodK exists. As far as you, you have your suspicions. As far as Harris, let's get into his hatred for a second (and how can he know me to say I'm a fundamentalist, Marg plese do not embarrass yourself so!):

"What will we do if an Islamist regime, which grows dewey-eyed at the mere mention of paradise, ever acquires long-range nuclear weaponry? If history is any guide, we will not be sure about where the offending warheads are or what their state of readiness is, and so we will be unable to rely on targeted, conventional weapons to destroy them. In such a situation, the only thing likely to ensure our survival may be a nuclear first strike of our own. (LOL, this is where it gets really comical) Needless to say, this would be an unthinkable crime-as it would kill tens of millions of innocent civilians in a single day-but it may be the only course of action available to us, given what Islamists believe."

My shameful namesake, The End of Faith

So tell me how it's ok for your idol to justify killing 1/5 of the world's population (because you can't think that Muslims in America would stand for such behavior)?

The problem that you have Sam is you don't think well because you jump to conclusions with lack of facts and you create arguments with others in your mind either not based on what someone said or only a small portion of what they've said taken out of context. You've done it with me, you do it with authors of books. You haven't read the book, you probably picked up that quote on some message board somewhere.

So you've taken a quote out of context and jumped to an erroneous conclusion.

Killing is justified in this world all the time Sam. In this particular case he is talking about a situation of terrorist muslim leaders with the same mentality as suicide bombers having access to nuclear bombs and it being a situation of either be killed or kill. It isn't something he's advocating but he's saying that Islam is the main reason behind the actions of the muslim suicide bombers and the situation is a possibility. He presents a chapter giving his arguments for this, including 3 pages of quotes taken from the Koran. It is an erroneous assumption to think everyone else thinks like you in this world. People's belief systems do impact how they think and act. Islam just like any religous belief system has an impact on the behaviors and attitudes of their believers.
