There must be 60 levels...at least it wouldn't go any higher for me and I didn't notice it wasn't going higher for a long time...

There were a couple of slang terms and a science one (kaon) which stumped me, but on the whole it seemed overly Elizabethan. My knowledge of historical English, Latin, cooking, sewing and architecture terms got me through...

It's one of the best perks of apostacy, I'll tell you that!

Ah, you're right, it was 60 levels. If anyone here would make it, I knew it'd be you Blixa. The site said it was rare for people to make it above level 50, so congratultions--not that any of us are surprised.

There were a couple of slang terms and a science one (kaon) which stumped me, but on the whole it seemed overly Elizabethan.

Interesting. What other varieties of English words would you have hoped for?

My knowledge of historical English, Latin, cooking, sewing and architecture terms got me through...

My only helps are my knowledge of security/computer terms, some basic French, and Dutch (which has connections to Archaic English). I doubt I'll pick up sewing anytime soon, but cooking is something I might go for. I just need to find the right kind of desserts that aren't packed with sugar (I prefer the natural sweetness of fruits), or some good soups / stews (I've got a nice ginger soup one I once made with a professional cook I've gotta try on my own sometime).

I did like that they mixed the ones you missed back in so you could learn them...

I was surprised at the level of arcane knowledge needed...I expected it to be very latinate, but to reach back to terms I've only encountered in Shakespeare was surprising!

The medical terms were obscure, but mostly I could make an educated guess with them because of latin roots. Also there were many that were easy to safe guess via process of elimination with the other choices (I only saw a few with tricky close choices).

It was kind of fun. Congee really threw me at first. I know it as the chinese version of japanese "soupy rice" (from Banana Yoshimoto's novel, Kitchen, which spurred me to learn to make it). But the only food choice was something like "gelled dessert." The only other asian choice was "bowing and/or kudos" (I think?) so I guessed that that could be it and the dish was named after that....

Fashion helped with fabric, clothing and garment terms (moire, plisse, shirr, lappet are the ones I remember, there seemed to be a lot of them).

I have momentarily given up at 49. I HATE blixa for reaching 60.

Most of the words past 45 are UNAMERICAN. Given that I'm patriotic, I was not particularly interested in doing anything other than invading them and giving them billions of dollars.

Define them? No.

I will say, though, that the Freerice folks have a really screwed-up definition of "is."

This adjective "is" this other-language noun. At times, even when I get the correct answer, I find myself saying, "No, your X really is not Y. No. Yeah, I guessed it, but you're from Ukraine."

Trying to break fifty.

I couldn't get past 40, and that was with using an online dictionary/thesaurus. :)

Looks like freerice.com has added new subjects including English Grammar (pathetically easy--I got to 5 real quick), Famous Paintings (it's been too long since I took art history so I did poorly), French, German, Italian, and Spanish (I think I got to 8 on Spanish and 10 on German), and World Capitals.

I think that's certifiable...as in insane.

Seriously, they've put a huge mass of arcane vocabulary in their generators. And I'm a reading geek. Its pretty much all I do. Kerry Shirts would evaporate if he knew the number of things I've read...some of them actual expensive books!
