I'd be willing to keep going with certain precautions if I thought everyone was on board with trying to protect themselves and everyone else, but a large percentage aren't on board. The people who are on board with self-preservation have already filtered themselves out by being vaccinated.
You've had nothing to worry about from COVID since you were vaccinated. Fear of a common cold is no reason to live under these restrictions. And as the John's Hopkins article pointed out, the lockdowns only reduced the death rate by 0.2%.
And despite all that, it continues to infect people. I think it's time to take heart in knowing that your risk is way lower than those who won't get vaccinated.
It's been time for that for well over a year now.
Unfortunately, because there are so many dimwits in this country, COVID is here to stay.
Zero covid was never a possibility no matter what percentage of the population is vaccinated nor how draconian the lockdown. Look at Australia for example.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Now because it is coming to an end you want to pretend it is because we've suddenly "seen the light" about what you've been saying all this time. Good God you're a useless piece of trash.
Covid isn't coming to an end. There will be new variants. People will continue to die from it. The data is no different than it was 6 months ago. The only thing that has changed is the politics and the views of people like Schmo on how we should deal with it.

Maybe Schmo’s view has not changed. He still thinks vaccines work and he still thinks that pancakes and Doc (who are vaccinated) got covid because of unvaccinated Nazis in Daytona and Ottawa.

What’s changed is that Schmo’s furniture and TV are still not delivered by a trucker and the truckers are honking horns.

I guess you're right. I guess people need to be hurt by this shutdown personally before they're willing to rethink their policies. I wish the same were true of the inflation Biden has created.

The paper written by four economists who were anti lockdown before publishing the paper was a methodological joke. It's very difficult to construct a good meta analysis. It's frighteningly easy to write a bad one that leads to a pre-determined conclusion.

It’s also worth mentioning that mitigation efforts were designed to *slow down* infection and death rates so that hospitals weren’t overwhelmed, which would otherwise result in increased death rates for a variety of reasons, other than just COVID.

The authors have an interesting definition of ‘lockdown’, as well.

Here’s an interesting commentary from other scientists on the study:
