Moral Depravity of Ron DeSantis

Post by Vēritās »

First we saw him have migrants shipped to Florida from Texas just so he could put on a show for his racist base by shipping them to Martha's Vineyard. He did this illegally by lying to them and using front people to serve his political agenda.

Then, we see that DeSantis wants people to believe election fraud needs to be dealt with harshly because it feeds into the false narrative that Democrats are winning elections everywhere by cheating. It is the same narrative made popular by Trump and DeSantis is just feeding off of that ignorance and hate that so many in this country share. He is bragging about the recent arrests of 20 citizens of his own state which he claims is proof of election fraud.

What he doesn't tell you is that these people voted illegally on a technicality and were basically lured into voting when the state passed amendment 4 in 2018, which said felons who had served their time were now allowed to vote. The word was out, and felons throughout the state had it in their minds they could vote. But the Florida Republicans quietly changed the law...
In 2018, nearly two-thirds of Florida voters approved Amendment 4, which restores voting rights to most people with felony convictions who have completed the terms of their sentence. The amendment originally restored the right to vote to roughly 1.4 million people.

But shortly after the election, the state’s GOP-controlled legislature passed a law requiring that people with felony convictions pay off all fines, fees, and restitution associated with their sentence before they are eligible to register to vote. After GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the law in June 2019, roughly 774,000 people who would have been eligible to vote were no longer allowed.
So, thousands of Floridians were voting without having any idea their freedom to vote was short lived and no longer existent. That's because the party of "freedom and liberty and limited government" needs to make sure they couldn't vote in order to help them retain power.

Did these people cheat? Did they use different names that would justify the ID requirement? No, they were actually allowed by the state to cast a ballot because DeSantis blocked funding for screenings that would have prevented those with felonies to cast a ballot.

The vast majority of these people are poor and black, and this is just one more example of systemic racism gone amuck in America where a racist white Republican manipulates the system to keep certain black people down, but this time only for the sole purpose of pushing one of his favorite political talking points.

Here is video footage of some of the arrests and notice how the cops themselves are confused as to why they're arresting people for this.

Trump himself voted illegally and so have his family and friends, but because we're a nation where systemic racism reigns, the only people going to jail for this crap are the poor black people who cannot afford legal representation. This is done intentionally because the Republican powers that be truly are racist, and they believe that by keeping the black people down in such ways, it confirms their racist beliefs that black people are inferior.

Election deniers are a special kind of stupid. If the Democrats are incurable election cheaters, how do any Republicans ever win? Funny how they don't question GOP wins.

damned morons.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

DeSantis will make it easier to vote if you are in a Republican leaning county affected by hurricane Ian, but not if you live in a Democrat leaning county.

Now this is what you call real journalism.

Reid: Florida's Saying Votes Aren't Welcome If You're Black, Brown, Poor, Not Going To Vote GOP
JOY REID: We begin tonight with Florida, which I would argue, even with Texas existing has emerged as the modern state in this country that comes the closest to a modern-day version of Jim Crow. Just hear me out. If there's a state that better exemplifies the rot of MAGA Republican rule than the state of Florida that the governor has named in very Orwellian fashion the free state of Florida, I honestly don't know what it is.

I mean, Florida has it all.

1. A law banning gay people from declaring their existence at school. Teachers can actually get fired for it.

2. A law against anti-racist policies at work, like you have to let the racism be in the workplace or else.

3. Book bans and requirements for patriotic Christian education propaganda in public schools, and, of course,

4. a concerted effort to make it as hard as possible for anyone who might vote for the out-of-power party, the Democrats, hashtag black people, to vote, or to have representative districts.

Florida's Jim Crow redux governor Ron DeSantis even has his own office of election crimes. Newly released and frankly disturbing video shows Tampa police back in August arresting people on charges of illegal voting in the 2020 election.

[video footage of people being hauled off in cuffs for having the audacity to send in their voter registration card that the state of Florida mailed to them]

REID: To be clear, that is because Ron DeSantis and his Republican cronies in the state legislature have done everything in their power to reverse the clock back to the 19th century. In 2018 Florida voters overwhelmingly approved an amendment reversing one of several Jim Crow-era laws in southern states and restoring voting rights for those with a felony conviction. Except those convicted of murder or of a felony sex offense. More than a million Floridians got their right to vote back. But in 2019, the Republican state legislature stepped in and passed legislation requiring those citizens to pay associated fees or fines before regaining their voting rights. Basically, a big fat poll tax, which of course DeSantis happily signed into law. That law which was upheld by a federal court in 2020 put a price on voting for thousands of disproportionately black, brown, and low-income white Floridians that can run as high as $50,000 in some cases.

Speaking of moral depravity, Lindsey Graham joked around at a fundraiser for Jim Jordan that if the GOP gets back control of Congress ‘a bunch of people in California will be jumping from bridges’. Aside from the utter lack of empathy and compassion for other Americans, it’s actually worse (as if these guys can get any lower):

https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comme ... t/iu802l0/
Now, back to Graham. He more than any other current politician is a master of this form of doublespeak. He is constantly saying things that have a completely hidden meaning for those who are outside that particular culture. In this case, my immediate understanding as someone who spent the majority of my life in the south, is that this is a very concise soft statement that says much to its target audience while slipping past the broader audience as just another dumb Lindsey Graham comment. Here’s how it breaks down:

Southerners old enough to remember will recognize this as a reference to the days when klansmen would force black men to jump from bridges so law enforcement could claim they weren’t murdered, but had simply fallen in accidentally, or had committed suicide. Except in this case, by referencing San Francisco, still largely seen by older southerners as a Haight-Ashbury era liberal haven for hedonism, he makes it less of a racist dog whistle and more of an anti-liberal dog whistle that also serves as a leaderless resistance call to violence for all of the “lone wolves” who are listening. Either he’s saying Jordan will conduct roundups of their political enemies, or his leadership will allow for others to do it for them.
