Production of The Book of Mormon

Post by DaveIsHere »

It's coming to a playhouse near me. Has anyone else seen it? What should I expect past "thone South Park guys wrote it"! Should I even buy tickets(trick question, already paid for, SO wants to go, hence I gotta go).

Ok, anyone that's seen it, exactly how hard can I expect to laugh/be offended?
If a Giant's pronouns are "fee, fi, fi, and fum", does that mean short people's pronouns are "oompa, loompa, and doopity-doo"?

I haven't seen it, but I've listened to the soundtrack a couple of times. I'm not sure what kind of things offend you, but I found many of the songs pretty funny. Hope you have a good time and give us a review.

I saw it in NY some years ago. It was very well done, and worth the ticket price.

It is of course a parody, so you are bound to find yourself saying "Hey, I don't know any Mormons like that!" a few times. But as an interested Nevermo who has been around this board for years, I'd say that I recognised a whole lot of stuff that people here have talked about.

And leaving aside the theme it's a good musical in the American tradition.
Maksutov:
That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
Mayan Elephant:
Not only have I denounced the Big Lie, I have denounced the Big lie big lie.

I haven't seen it (for the same reason I stopped watching Big Love - I didn't enjoy being reminded of the culture that drove me away), but my wife and daughter have seen it and raved about it. They've never been to an LDS church, so they don't have the same background as I do.

I love South Park, but musicals aren't my thing. I can't think of any form of entertainment I'd rather avoid than a Broadway musical. But yeah, I've heard it's great if you're into that sort of thing, like my wife and daughter are.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.
