A fantastic Bible resource

Post by Dr. Shades »

Behold:

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible

I've found this to be a wonderful Bible resource, because when you click on each book it gives you the option to list all the absurdities, contradictions, injustices, falsehoods, etc. found therein. A helpful list to the lower-right of the site allows you to bring up everything the Bible teaches about a variety of different topics. Bonus links lead to the number of people God killed vs. the number Satan killed, a list of every commandment in the Bible, and a few other things.

As a bonus, links at the top lead to the Skeptic's Annotated Koran and the Skeptic's Annotated Book of Mormon.

Please share your opinion of this resource and whether you've used it or otherwise found it as helpful as I have.

Yes, I've heard of this version. There's something wrong with the link. I can't get there from here. I tried google searching and same results with the link. I guess the issue could be on my end somehow. Maybe someone else will try it and report back.

The link doesn't work for me either for some reason. All I get is a message saying that it takes too long to respond.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Thank you Dr. Shades. I found that link very useful. I'm going to spend a lot of time studying that one!

Another book I found very useful and informative was Asimov's Guide to the Bible.
A fantastic read for anyone interested in organised religion and history. He takes the reader on a journey of the Bible through the eyes of the authors and readers. By providing historical backgrounds to the times and the peoples for whom the Bible was writtten, he helps explain why this book should NEVER be taken literally. I'm sure parts are outdated by new research by now but it is still a legitimate examination of both the old and new testaments. It also created in me (for the first time) the desire to read the Bible as the great work of literature that it is.
