A 9-year-old girl at a school track and field event was left 'shaking and sobbing' after a man accused her of being trans and demanded her disqualification, mom says

A 9-year-old girl was yelled at during a regional track and field event in British Columbia, Canada, on Sunday by a man who insisted she was trans and that she should be disqualified from competing, her parents said, according to local news outlet Castanet.

The child's mothers, who chose not to disclose their daughter's name, told Castanet that the girl was competing in a shot put event at Kelowna's Apple Bowl when the grandfather of another participant began to yell at her.

Heidi Starr, one of her mothers, told the local news outlet: "Right before she went to throw, a grandfather of a student said, 'Hey, this is supposed to be a girls' event, and why are you letting boys compete.'"

The girl's mother clarified that her daughter is cisgender, meaning she was assigned female at birth and still identifies as a girl. She mentioned that her daughter has a pixie haircut, adding that the man also pointed and shouted at another girl with short hair.

According to a Facebook post shared by Starr, the man insisted her child was "definitely trans" and called for her to be disqualified from competing in the school competition.

This is one of the undesirable consequences of this so called "anti-woke" frenzy that seems to be infecting hard-right conservatives, especially the MAGA type. Even if the little girl actually were transgender, (which she wasn't) it should not have been a big deal in this case. It is not all that uncommon for pre-pubescent little girls to be more than competitive athletically and physically with little boys of the same age. In little league softball, for example, little girls can often easily hold their own against little boys of the same age. In my case, when I was a kid, there was a period of time when I was terribly embarrassed by the fact that my 2 years younger sister was significantly both taller and physically stronger than I, though I rapidly caught up with and surpassed her when we both eventually hit puberty.

As I have contended before, I think that this "anti-woke" mania current polluting society and politics is mainly a cover for latent, hateful bigotry that conservates are understandably reluctant to openly express or expose. That is why their attempts to define what they mean by "woke" are so ambiguous!

I would say that it is definitely both, and it is getting worse for that little girl. And despite being justly excoriated publicly and in social media, the jerk who ruined her day and brought her to tears has only doubled down on his hateful intolerant abuse.

The man, who has since been identified as Josef Tesar, is said to have suggested that the young girl was transgender as he yelled “Get that boy off the field.”

Karri Star, the mother of the girl in question, spoke to the Kelowna Now about the incident,

“My daughter is a girl, was born female, and uses she/her pronouns. She has a pixie cut,” she said. “(He proceeded to say that if my daughter was not a boy, then she was definitely trans and should be disqualified from competing.”

Karri explained that her daughter was participating in a shot put event when Tesar began berating her. Even with other people trying to get him to back off, Tesar is said to have continued his verbal attack and demanded that the girl’s mother furnish him with a birth certificate to prove that she was born a female.

Social media was in collective disgust.

Besides that, the whole question raised by Mr. Tesar about whether or not she is trans is really irrelevant. As far as I'm concerned, even if she were really trans (for which there is no credible evidence whatsoever), she is a prepubescent child, and prepubescent males do not automatically have an unfair physical or athletic advantage over prepubescent girls of the same age.

In fairness, though, it should probably be noted that Josef Tesar denies he was just being a jerk.

Tesar denies having yelled at anyone.

“I never yelled towards the girl,” he claims. “I went to the official in private and asked one only question if this a mixed competition” he said.

“As I was walking away from the official, a woman saying ‘I’m her mother’ and [she was] yelling, and swearing at me and offering if I want to see [the girl] naked, or if I want to see her genitals,” he continued.

“I said ‘No, the certificate is OK.’ That’s all I said. I never pointed to another girl and said she’s obviously trans. That is a big lie as well.”

He has since been banned from all school sporting events in the district while Kelowna police are reported to be conducting investigations.

It may be that the girl's mother is the one who actually overreacted and at least partially misperceived Tesar's intentions. It also appears, based on his defense, that he would have had no concerns had the event been clearly billed as a "mixed competition" in which contestants of all genders were equally eligible to compete.

It is glaringly obvious that this fringe group of conservative doctors bases their conclusions and agenda almost entirely on religious prejudice, science be damned! Among other things, the conversion therapy this group pushes for "curing" LGBTQ individuals to make them "straight" has abundantly been proven not only to be totally ineffective but basically amounts to nothing more than sadistic torture, and only leads to high rates of both depression and suicide among its victims.

I've read the accounts, and it feels like he is trying to pull a fast one. He claims he never yelled to the girl, but clearly the crowd, and mother heard him questioning or making comments. He then went and privately spoke to the officials, and then the mother confronted him. How did she know to confront him if there wasn't already something going on? Also the guy got banned from all future events, from the way it is worded it seems like it didn't happen right away, but before this hit the media, so he must not have been the saint he claims to be.

I've also seen pictures of the guy, looks like someone on steroids. It's possible we have a little roid rage. The community will only be better off without him being allowed to come around. Further reading the guy seems to not play well with the neighbors, but I'm sure he doesn't see anything wrong in his behavior.
