Mark Kelly is now listed as the frontrunner for VEEP.

With the VP pick upcoming and coming up fast, I'm going to go out on a limb here and a pretty big limb at that. I'm basing this on the current media exposure of the list of potential VP candidates.

I don't know everything. I don't know anything. And yes, I know all the reasons against this pick.

VP pick: Pete Buttegieg

If I'm wrong, not going to eat crow because I'm not invested in my prediction. As I said, it's based on media exposure. I'm not married to it. Just want to see if I end up being right.

I kind of lean toward Kelly for two reasons:

- I think he can help make the case on immigration, and a lot of swing voters might need that
- Shapiro (who I think is the front runner strategically) might depress the youth vote with his messages on Palestinian protests

Plus, (bonus points) Kelly was an astronaut, and that's just cool.

Of course, Mayor Pete is my first choice, but I think that pick introduces unnecessary political risk, as we've talked about.

I like Kelly a lot too, as well as Mayor Pete and Shapiro and a number of others. The democratic party has a number of people who would be great candidates, unlike the Republicans, who don't have a single viable pick for the job. Adam Kinzinger might be decent possibility, though I don't agree with all of his views, but there is obviously no chance that Trump would ever consider him. Adam is what Trump hates, fears and disdains the most -- a decent, honest person who genuinely cares about something other than just his own wealth, power and privilege. Worst of all, in Trumps view, Adam would not slavishly and unquestioningly support every whim and nefarious scheme Trump comes up with.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I'm just gonna say it. I don't think that Mark Kelly is a good public speaker and I do think it matters. Maybe I'm wrong and need to find more interviews.

What do you think of Shapiro’s Obama impersonation?

One thing that occurred to me overnight is that Harris could have been seen as politically risky back when Biden picked her (I mean, a colored woman for VP? That's insane!) but now she's become a widely accepted candidate after 3.5 years.

I wonder if she were to pick Pete and drag him into the White House with her if the same thing couldn't happen with a gay man. People can get used to anything.

Adopting Obama's cadence will make him an effective public communicator. I've heard Kelly scripted and he sounds sharp and persuasive.

However, Buttigieg's off-the-cuff consiveness puts him over the top. That draws audiences to him, whether in a NATO meeting or with a Fox audience.

I think Utah would secede from the Union, based on white-hot anger from the Brethren. They might even take Mississippi and Alabama with them, and Texas and Florida have already expressed a willingness to secede.

While some may argue that Utah, Mississippi, and Alabama leaving would be a good thing, would you really want to abandon the old people in Florida or the oil wells in Texas?

If the rumors are true than it looks like Walz is the pick. I think he has a solid left-leaning record that should play well to the base but I wonder if it won't leave the ticket open from other angles. I suppose their vetting left them not worrying about the border.
