Right. The standard is not to be 100% certain, but to practice due diligence.
If we are honest, in business, "due diligence" is a code word for CYA and falls under Risk Management.
That is definitely part of it, yes. But some companies take their ethical responsibilities more seriously than others. For example: I believe you mentioned prospective employees presenting photocopies of social security cards (and yes, some employers do accept these) whereas I-9 instructions specify the identifying documents must be originals or, in some cases, certified copies. Also: a company that has access to E-Verify for workers involved in federal contracts may opt to screen *all* new employees using E-Verify (the only cost is the time it takes HR to process the data).

Yes, as CYA, not for any "ethical" reason....for the most part anyways.

You disagree on what? That you asked A.I. a leading question, got an erroneous answer but still believe it because you really, really want it to be true??! Good grief. That's just ridiculous. But sure, make up your own definitions.
That A.I. was wrong you are a "nitpicker." The question is about solutions for an epidemic with many nuances that is costing us a lot of money and more importantly hundreds of thousand of lives, and you refuse to engage in a open conversation offering your ideologies and solutions as opposed, while finding dumb things to nitpick, just as A.I. said. That is what I disagree on.

So go ahead and nitpick away or offer your solutions against those you criticize.
No, your A.I. answer defined criticism as a logical fallacy. That is incorrect. Stick to your topic please. You are just embarrassing yourself with these attempts to obfuscate.

LOL, You believe that A.I. was wrong, I do not.

This is what A.I. said...."When someone criticizes your solution to a problem without offering their own opinion or alternative solution, this is often considered a logical fallacy called "nitpicking" or a form of "ignoratio elenchi" (missing the point), as they are focusing on flaws in your proposal without providing a constructive alternative to address the issue at hand."

Do you want to argue that instead, which is a straw-man and a logical fallacy, or the issues. What are your solutions? The question is not that hard. I am proving a logical fallacy here, by you, because you refuse to address the issue or even attempt to answer my questions.

What is your solution to the fentanyl crisis Marcus?

Oh dear god. No, your A.I. answered your leading question by stating something is a logical fallacy when it is not. Nor is it a logical fallacy when people post what they want to and not what you insist they do. Grow the “F” up, you baby.

More logical fallacy with ad-hom's, which shows a weakness and as A.I. wrote all you do is nit-pick, it is all you got Marcus. You can offer your solution if you want to, but for what ever reason you decline. Please do so 5th request as I recall.

Markk, I searched the White House web site for all mentions of the word, ‘fentanyl’, and reviewed each document for details on the Trump Administration’s plans to address this crisis:

* Fact Sheet: President Donald J. Trump Imposes Tariffs on Imports from Canada, Mexico and China

Fact Sheets February 1, 2025

Proposed solution: Tariffs!
The first Fact Sheet. Thank you it was a good read. What do you find inaccurate or what you disagree with here?

ADDRESSING AN EMERGENCY SITUATION: The extraordinary threat posed by illegal aliens and drugs, including deadly fentanyl, constitutes a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
  • Until the crisis is alleviated, President Donald J. Trump is implementing a 25% additional tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% additional tariff on imports from China. Energy resources from Canada will have a lower 10% tariff.
  • President Trump is taking bold action to hold Mexico, Canada, and China accountable to their promises of halting illegal immigration and stopping poisonous fentanyl and other drugs from flowing into our country.

Looks like Big Auto has decided that ‘the fentanyl crisis’ may be over. At least they convinced Trump that it must be:

“Reading a statement from the president at Wednesday's press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said: "We spoke with the Big Three auto dealers. We're going to give a one month exemption on any autos coming through USMCA. Reciprocal tariffs will still go into effect on April 2nd, but at the request of the companies associated with USMCA, the president is giving them an exemption for one month so that they are not at an economic disadvantage."
