I just wanted to brag as a proud son. My mother, lifetime Republican and Trump voter, is on her town council. She recently voted to defund the police of her town, citing the high price of maintaining a force that had trouble with staffing. The budget of the department was nearly 3.5 million a year for a small town. When my mother first got on the council, the police chief at the time approached her in an attempt to win her support for a new ten million dollar building for the department, and she refused.
The local sheriff has pledged to pick up the slack, and so we’ll see how that works out. I teased her about defunding the police and told her I would publicize what she has done in my own little corner of the world because this is too hilarious to keep quiet about.

I think small police departments and even small fire departments are on their way out. It’s too costly today. The sheriff’s department in 2025 can provide better service for less. I’m sure small city fire departments are the same.

Re: Republican Mom Defunded the Police
On the one hand, I think it is a worrisome development. But, for a town of less than 10,000 people, 3.5 million dollars a year is a big expense. Mostly I just found it funny that she was directly contradicting the big talking point of a few years ago. Isn’t it the librulz who defund the police? At the same time, I am proud of my mother for getting involved in local politics. I was especially happy when she told me that she ran as an independent against a Republican and won.yellowstone123 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 10:41 pmI think small police departments and even small fire departments are on their way out.
