Kishkumen, your other thread explained for those who forget that a good president surrounds himself with the best help. With that help a mentally declining Biden could do a good job and to my view did.

Yes to try to continue a second term appears much to have been an error.
Yeah, in retrospect it looks bad, but is it as bad as all that?

I say no. Let's think this through. Right now, we have a president who is, in essence, trying to be a dictator. He is violating the Constitution, defying court orders, kidnapping citizens and people legally here in this country to ship them off to foreign gulags, attacking higher education, openly taking bribes, working on stripping millions of people of their healthcare, lowering taxes on the fabulously wealthy, and increasing the deficit by THREE TRILLION dollars.

If Biden had run and won, and then he had to resign to hand things off to Harris, we would still be much better off today than we are now. The only way in which Biden running a second time was worse was because people have been made stupid by television. In other words, in a sane world, where people's brains had not turned to mush by television propaganda, an objective take on a tired, cognitively impaired Biden's successes as opposed to the destructive insanity of a completely corrupt and authoritarian Trump regime would lead to choosing the former over the latter every day of the week. It was only really a bad idea because it was a bad electoral strategy.

Markk, Hound, and Ajax are prime examples of the mush-brained crowd. They believe all the stupid crap and lies Trump offers up daily, they collude in their own impoverishment, and they hate anyone who tells them the facts. In other words, they are lambs eagerly offering themselves up to the butcher. In short, Joe Biden is smarter than they are. Even with dementia, Joe Biden makes better decisions than Markk, Hound, and Ajax. DM's Triumvirate of Self-Destruction.

We need to get back to a world where people were capable of looking to the results instead of the horserace.
I see Biden as a good president and having him elected for a second term much to be preferred to what happened.

Second guessing is difficult. I am not particularly surprised people around him guarded his weakness.

I agree with that. Biden was not perfect, but I do sincerely believe he accomplished some good things and was unfairly underrated by many--even by some who voted for him. According to my observations he left the country in a better state than it was before he took office. As mentioned before, he left us with a growing economy and GDP and a declining inflation rate, compared to the rest of the world at the time, that many considered the envy of most of the rest of the world. Trump, in his first few months managed to reverse that growing economy into a declining one.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Trump has taken a country that was doing well and dumped it in the toilet. We went from being a global leader to being a global laughing stock. Even the authoritarians Trump envies and admires laugh at him behind his back.

I'm not laughing. I'm seeing a country that I have known for years was in significant ways culturally alien to me, but which had many features that I liked, respected, and valued, being torn to pieces by a moron. I have American colleagues who are already beginning to see themselves as potential refugees; the loss of their talents will leave America a poorer place, and one of the great engines of human intellectual progress will slow down, and may even, if the damage continues, more or less grind to a halt. What a terrible loss, and for what?

I've been waiting for someone to post on Biden's cancer diagnosis. I wish him the best for recovery.

My point of the thread is with all the books coming out, and the folks who were close to him revealing how there was a coverup on his decline. The Hur video. And now his having a cancer that he most likely had for years, maybe a decade, and no one knew?

This is going to get a whole lot worse, before it gets better, and it appears that this poor guy was not only used, but abused.

So, what was going on and who was running the country?
Apparently Biden has "Stage 9" cancer according to your guy who is not "cognitively impaired."

Greed, mostly. Greedy people who manipulated others with fear.

I despairingly agree with your assessment of what is happening to America, and that Trump is tearing apart some of the most valued features, values and institutions of our country, while at the same time eagerly embracing some of its worst flaws. Maga republicans apparently don't even see human intellectual progress as a valuable and desirable thing. Trump has famously proclaimed that he loves the uneducated. He makes no secret of his disdain for some of our very best educational institutions which are on a par with the best educational institutions to be found anywhere else. It is obscenely outrageous that he actually feels justified in unlawfully detaining and cancelling the visas of visiting scholars and intellectuals merely for publicly expressing honest political opinions he doesn't like, even after he has extolled the constitutional first amendment right of freedom of expression. What an incredible hypocrite!

ETA: Trump's take on the first amendment's guarantee of freedom of speech and expression is that everyone has both the freedom and the obligation to agree with him on everything. Otherwise, one has the right to be detained or have one's visa be cancelled or join the ranks of the unemployed.
