ICEBlock App

Post by ceeboo »

An APP that allows you to warn others that ICE is near.

Has anyone downloaded it yet?

Any opinions about the ICEBlock app?

Don't keep it on your phone when you plan to be in an airport or at a border crossing.

This is an excellent app for folks with a fear of polar bears.

Very good point, Kish, in fact, anyone who travels a lot ought to consider getting a burner phone for travel.

In addition to Kish's point, anyone planning on using it ought to ask: Is it a government honeypot? If not, how hard will it be for the FBI to hack it? What are the chances a high-level employee is juiced in with other "tech bros" willing to broker the data? I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

It would be better for google to expand its reporting features just a little. I swear I've seen speed trap warnings but not real recent. That could be utilized and made far more effective.

In principle it's a great idea. I grew up watching Dukes of Hazard and most of us had that neighbor with a fast car and a Leader-1. Truck drivers watch out for each other by CB radio. It's the true libertarian spirit to resist LE overreach. What ICE is doing is sick. It's even counter-productive to their own aims of racking up numbers. They want the punishment before the trial, and if a person can get to their lawyer before they are kidnapped, they increase their chances of getting dealt with fairly, including avoiding kidnapping.
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

Sick is right. The whole thing is a crap show, and it is not getting better results, unless the better results sought for are to terrorize the country. Honestly, I am surprised there haven't been more efforts to resist ICE than there have.

Look, if I thought that ICE was trustworthy, and they were following the law, that would be one thing. The ICEBlock app might not even exist. But, Trump campaigned on the idea that he would be deporting serious criminals, and it is now clear that he is moving to get rid of as many people as he can get his hands on. And heaven only knows what will happen to those people when ICE or whichever evil corporation the government has hired has got its hands on them.

Heck, as of June 11th the DOJ's civil division is even seeking to strip naturalized citizens of their citizenship. This is so off the rails awful and depraved that I am beside myself with bafflement, nausea, and sadness. My family includes naturalized citizens, so you better believe I have a big eff you for anyone who approves of that evil garbage. And if you say that they are only taking naturalized citizenship from frauds and criminals, you have not read the memo.

Yes, this is where we’re at now. Per the DOJ’s memo, their attorneys can take up “any other cases referred to the Civil Division that the Division determines to be sufficiently important to pursue.

In any normal Administration, there would hardly be a thought from anyone that such wording would be abused. But with Trump rambling incoherently about deporting citizens for various subjective reasons - including because he’s having public spats with them (Musk) or doesn’t like their politics (Mamdani) - and with the Administration staffed with an incredibly petty and vindictive leadership, we now have a problem.

“The provision is so vague that it would permit the Division to denaturalize for just about anything. It could be something prior to or following naturalization. Given the other priorities discussed in the memo, it could be exercising First Amendment rights or encouraging diversity in hiring, now recast as fraud against the United States. Troublesome journalists who are naturalized citizens? Students? University professors? Infectious disease doctors who try to reveal the truth about epidemics? Lawyers?” Joyce Vance, a law professor and former U.S. attorney appointed by former President Obama, wrote on her blog.

“All are now vulnerable to the vagaries of an administration that has shown a preference for deporting people without due process and dealing with questions that come up after the fact and with a dismissive tone.”
