I hate the way welfare is done in government. I like the way we do it in church.

And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Can you walk me through how the LDS model actually works compared to other church charities? From the outside, it looks more dependent on a bishop’s discretion, with less oversight and concern for privacy. And unlike government programs, it seems like there’s at least some connection to participation or relationship with the church.

What's wrong with Ajax's approach and attitude is that only wants to point fraud when Democrats do it, while he famously ignores the outrageous excesses of the current Trump administration, arguably the most openly and shamelessly corrupt administration in the history of our nation. We have already pointed out how Democrats tend to point out and condemn even their own members malfeasance, while Trump and MAGA stubbornly ignore or defend even most outrageous perpetrations committed by their own, even to the point of continuing to support a lawfully convicted felon and scam artist.
I have no objection to malfeasance committed by politicians of any stripe, but let's not ignore or try to defend it when our own party commits it.

No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

That's not what it's about. I'm talking about fast offering help at the local ward level. It's not just the bishop or EQ president. It's the ward council

I was listening to David Frum on a podcast today and he stated it perfectly: MAGA wants everyone else to abide by the rules we've all agreed upon without holding themselves to the same standard.Gunnar wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2026 7:26 pmWhat's wrong with Ajax's approach and attitude is that only wants to point fraud when Democrats do it, while he famously ignores the outrageous excesses of the current Trump administration, arguably the most openly and shamelessly corrupt administration in the history of our nation. These idiots don't understand they can't complain about people breaking rules they're willing to break themselves.
And of course, ajax is a proven moron. Why anyone speaks to him on this forum is a complete mystery to me at this point. He's damned useless to talk to and an even bigger waste of time to read. I don't know if his idiocy is an act or not, but that's irrelevant at this point. His posts are moronic on their face.

I have not been in a position to verify this directly myself, but from people who have asked for welfare help (unable to feed their kids without putting it on a credit card if they paid tithing first) and some who have been on the other side in leadership, in Sweden it seems generally the church sucks all fast offerings up and out of the country, cause Sweden has such robust programs in place. Of course the programs here would tell the couple I knew to stop giving money to a church and be able to afford groceries. I've heard plenty of anecdotes of bishops in Utah can maybe sometimes use 5-10% collected of fast offerings locally.
Welfare and safety nets from the government is something the people have voted for more or less. If tomorrow churches and rich people actually stepped up and made it so government welfare was not necessary then people would be fine cutting it. Religious people say it should be up to people and churches, gives them blessings, but there is literally nothing stopping them from providing today. They just claim they would but taxes, which churches can't even use as an excuse. Go to a bishop and they will make sure you try government programs, family, friends, before they will hand over a penny. People who if they had saved just a portion of what they gave the church would be self sufficient.
Just another place religious folks and Mormons preach one thing and do another.

The scale of their corruption is to be noted, as well. Look at Kristi Noem’s $220 Million ad grift after her promotion:Gunnar wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2026 7:26 pmWhat's wrong with Ajax's approach and attitude is that only wants to point fraud when Democrats do it, while he famously ignores the outrageous excesses of the current Trump administration, arguably the most openly and shamelessly corrupt administration in the history of our nation. The only reason why she was canned by Trump was because this grift was becoming too hard to keep out of the public eye. Even then, Trump rewarded her by moving her into a purely ceremonial job position created to allow the Governmwnt to still funnel a fat paycheck her way while she does no actual work.
This isn’t the first time that Noem has dipped her fingers into the corruption and grift pot, either:
