My favorites:

Xenogears
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Super Metroid It's not that the ending was so great, but the final battle was amazing the first time. Gave me a huge adrenaline rush.
Megaman III For it's time it was pretty cool as you got to see many robots including the first mention of Megaman's sister Roll that I'm aware of.
Final Fantasy 2 / IV Forgiving your evil brother, the prevelance of hate. I liked it.
That's General Leo. He could be my friend if he weren't my enemy.

Still haven't played xenogears. I spent 3 weeks downloading it, and then left for the sabbatical. :(

I haven't finished silver star story, either, but I did play Eternal Blue, and it was pretty kickass.

I love all the metroids. They've never had such good endings, but you could break the rules in that game in so many ways. Such fun. And Super Metroid's boss battle most definitely was fricken awesome.

I never liked the original Mega Man series, but I really loved the mega man X and Zero series.

FF2/4, one of the best.

Xenogears is a really deep game. It so many psychological, mythological, philosophical, and religious references that much of it went over my head.

Eternal Blue was pretty good and if you like that, you'll love Silver Star Story. In EB, I liked the second ending.

FF2/4 is what got me hooked on RPGs although I enjoyed Dragon Warrior and Crystalis before that too.

I do admit that anyone who is not ashamed to be sitting through the FFX 'laughing' scene should be shot on general principles.

I'm going to say that Ghosts & Goblins guy was using an emulator with save states....CHEATER!!!!! There, now I'm still unique :) My brother and I got out the old NES 2 Christmas's ago while at our parent's house and decided we would sit down and beat the first game we'd ever played. We started at 5 pm. I finished at 4 am. He was almost there when the Nintendo shut down (as such old things tend to do).

I recommend the Vampire game. Uses a good engine. The gameplay is nothing to write home about but the storyline and characters are great fun.

Actually, on the speed demos archive, all the games must be played on the original system in order to qualify. There's other sites for save-state games, and they're usually much faster, but I find it much more entertaining to watch the live versions.

Okay....now I want to cry.....I felt so special

Okay...so I've finally experienced what I deem to be the best video game ending of all time: Guitar Hero II. The last venue you play is Stonehenge. You're rockin' Stonehenge and the fans are going nuts. They call for an encore. They yell for Free Bird. Do you play it? Is it just a joke? Do they really want to hear it? Hell yes, they do. So you start into the song, you know, the mellow part at the beginning with the lyrics and then you get to the first rockin' passage and then you shred through the solo, fingers mashing colored buttons at a blistering pace. You finish the song, the place goes crazy crazy. A UFO flies in (because everyone knows that Stonehenge was built by aliens and the aliens were waiting for the perfect moment to make contact with humans at this sacred stone shrine, that perfect moment being the wailing notes of Freebird) and beams you up. It takes off for the heavens and the game ends with a view of the stars...stars that spell out the words: Live and Let Rock. Beat that, RPG players.

That's a tough one to beat. I can only offer the ending I plan to put in all of my video games/movies/stories. Right after the hero obtains his goal, and enjoys the moment for only a second, Nuclear war breaks out and everyone dies. The end.

Makes sequels difficult to explain.....

With enough nuclear energy, ANYTHING is possible!
