While I could enjoy the lovely ladies as well watching the sheer grit of a 21 day bike race even with guys is a thing of beauty. Indeed this is one of the most difficult athletic events in the world. Having done a few bike races myself a one that was 12 hours long, I can appreciate that pain that these incredible athletes are experiencing.

You can get Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin live in the AM and Bob Roll in the PM as well as more Liggett and Sherwin. These sports announcers make it fun to watch even if you are not in to cycling. Bob Roll is almost a stand up comedian.
And as you noted the country is beautiful and the shots you get from the helicopter cameras are awesome.
Sure, I've watched the Versus coverage... on and off, as I said. It's almost like being there because the announcers are the same. The fun thing I saw in Europe, though, was that in some places we had three channels covering the tour, each in a different language. Plus it was on in all the bars, on the front page of the papers, and people everywhere were talking about it.

As you know it is a huge event in Europe. Bigger than what the Superbowl is here in the US. And watched by many more people, both lining the road and on TV. I hope to go there someday during the tour, ride a few stages, sit on a few mountain stages and watch the rest in some quaint bar or pub somewhere.

Sounds like fun. Go for it. You can be one of those guys on the narrow mountain roads that we sometimes have to hang out behind, waiting for a chance to pass. There are a lot of them riding around near the Pyrenees all summer.
Incidentally, my little group of three is heading back to the continent next week, but this time for a cruise of Scandinavia and Scotland.
