Angus, you make many points, especially about the government wanting to help the children that are attached to these crackeheads. But by placing absolutely no limits on their parents, they (the parents) just keep abusing the system....and the kids get no help, not to mention they are pretty much brainwashed by watching the parents screw up to do the same thing.

It's not all their fault (the impoverished who need assistance). The way the system works in VA, they almost ask you to lie to them in order to get assistance. No, you do not have a bank account, because if they look at it and see that you've had ANY money this year, they will refuse you aid. If you do get any money, don't report it if you can help it, because their "assistance" doesn't amount to more than $500 a month, and if you come up with more than that amount, your benefits will probably be taken away...even though you are responsible for coming up with the difference needed to meet your financial needs. If you have kids, that's the only way you qualify for housing assistance, and that waiting list is so long, because of all of the people living in those houses with jobs that are probably better than mine (when I was employed), driving Chrysler 300s, and paying maybe $200 a month in rent. Some jurisictions got smart and shut down a large part of their subsidized housing, forcing the people who were exploiting the system to move. But many have not.

Helping is a good thing, but I watched a person get an apartment (a really nice on in an upscale neighborhood, complete with a door man, pool, on-site convenience store, I pay out the ass for violence), food stamps, a check, bus vouchers, and vouchers to get clothes from the goodwill...who didn't try to get a job, who didn't even think about going to school. Because she wasn't required to. All that mattered was the kids, so she took full advantage of that situation. And I hated her for it, because I had to struggle because I kept my damn legs closed in high school. When I was hungry, I stayed hungry (I tried to apply for food stamps years ago and was told that since I didn't have kids, I wouldn't qualify..I lose my medicaid once my child is born, despite the health problems....just when I'm starting to get better). All she did was use the money she got for weed, and bring men into her home who put holes in the wall and who beat her.

Her son will most likely grow up to abuse women because of what he continuously sees. I sat there one day and listened to him, at the age of five, admit that his mom was in the next room getting her ass beat. I called the cops and threw the vagrant out...and she asked me why I did it. The current babydaddy broke HIS (my little cousin's)leg, when my young cousin tried to defend his mother. I say kill the bitch, let her boyfriends finally do her in, since the only people who she can spend time with are addicts and abusers. We came from the SAME background, and I've never stood for the crap she does.. Kids would be better off without her, too. She is no mother. The daughter will most likely be pregnant at 16, because the mother thinks that "I love you" is a suitable form of birth control. The youngest is a crack baby.

Yet the government keeps helping her. Why not just take the kids from her? You mean to tell me that every foster home is worse than what they already live through? I've been in a battered women's shelter, and though the experience was scary, I knew I was working towards a better life. If my cousin were worth her own spit, I'd help her escape. But she's been so coddled, by the government, by her crackhead mama, by everyone who has told her that her actions are OK, that she refuses to fix the huge mess she's made of her life.

Save the kids by improving the child welfare services system, and letting people like my cousin starve. I don't care if she dies, I don't care if young ho's like her who have refused help (I've lent her hours and hours of my time, thousands of dollars, and much concern only to have her laugh at me and continue to get high...I almost took custody of her kids at her request) starve. Let them. They made that choice. The education on how to live a better life is out there, believe me. I was insulted to recieve some pamphlet on family planning the other day, just because I'm on medicaid. Um, my baby was anticipated. Subsequent strokes were not.

What the “F” can you do with $220 a month in this country today? Where in this country does that cover rent?

I completely agree, BC. NO welfare for the able-bodied who can work. If I can go back to work with questionable health, then those who are completely healthy can get their asses out there and work. I worked until I drop, you work period.

I cannot STAND those people who can work who refuse to. Every time I have to watch someone sacrifice because I cannot work, I hate myself more. I'll be glad to be on my feet again. I do everything I can to get better, and pray that I won't fall this far from good health again any time soon, if ever.

You are asking the government to pay for millions of urine tests, and create another gigantic bureaucracy machine to administrate these tests, all for the sake of fairness. Sounds like a waste of your tax dollars to me.

Liberty and justice for all. I wonder what that meant back in the day. We sure seem to spend a lot of money to make things fair for some people. Yet when people cheat me it's viewed as insignificant.

LDS Terrestrial kingdom seems glorious beyond decription. Can you imagine getting rid of all the telestial beings, at least till they clean up their act. If restitution is still a part of repentance, I might like money back as well. Good thing I have this fantasy otherwise I might find another way to deal with these people, and it probably wouldn't cost much at all.
