You'd like him.

Brazil had something shy of 500 murders last year of gay folk, for being gay. I expect that number to go up.

Why did you post this?

I posted this to give you some information about the president elect in Brazil.

I think you know what I'm actually asking, so how about answering that question.

I answered the question as I understand it. Could you elucidate because I am not following?

He wanted to get your opinion on Bolsonaro's fiscal policies and how he plans to reduce or eliminate government cronyism and corruption that plagued previous Leftist governments. Those governments have been virtually clownish resulting in the Apocalympics and a shoddy World Cup, humiliating the world's 4th largest democracy.

You said you did not know much about him so I posted some details.

Bolsonaro is a rampant homophobe.

Bolsonaro is a rampant racist.

Bolsonarao is a rampant misogynist.

Bolsonaro calls himself the Brazilian Trump.

Bolsonaro is on the record for paying for sex with prostitutes.

Bolsonaro says he will remove environmental protections from tribal lands for resource extraction.

Bolsonaro says he will remove the protected status of wilderness reserves in the Amazon.

Bolsonaro denies human caused climate change.

Bolsonaro has said he wants the return of Brazil's military dictatorship.

Bolsonaro threatens violence against those that oppose him.

Bolsonaro admits he has about 0 understanding of economic policy.

If he is like almost every other Brazilian politician he will soon get caught with his hands in the treasury.

As he seems pretty well aligned with what you have been promoting here recently I noted that you (WD) would like him.

But it is best is WD clarifies his own question, as I am still unsure what he is trying to say.

He started a thread on the topic of Bolsonaro winning Brazil's election. He didn't solicit anyone's opinion on how the leftist party's corruption propelled his victory or what Bolsonaro's fiscal or anti-corruption policies are. He said he doesn't know much about him and quoted a single line about his victory that makes reference to frustration over corruption and crime.

Within the topic of the OP, discussing anything related to his victory, who he is, and what it means is fair game. The most notable thing about his victory is his far-right, anti-democratic views and that naturally would be the first thing to bring up.

My link contains a ton of incendiary comments from Bolsonaro that rather consistently portray him as a violent authoritarian who does not respect democratic norms. Duterte, only a little worse seems to be the closest analog. Like this one:

“Through the vote, you will not change anything in this country, nothing, absolutely nothing! It will only change, unfortunately, when, one day, we start a civil war here and do the work that the military regime did not do. Killing some 30,000, starting with FHC [then-President Fernando Henrique Cardoso], not kicking them out, killing! If some innocent people are going to die, fine, in any war, innocents die.”

– Câmara Aberta TV program, May 23, 1999

But the one that gets me the most, not because it's the worst comment mind you, is this:

Interviewer: Are you proud of the story of Hitler’s life?

“No, pride, I don’t have, right?”

Interviewer: Do you like him?

“No. What you have to understand is the following: War is war. He was a great strategist.

– CQC, TV Bandeirantes, March 26, 2012
The hell is this? Hitler was famously a completely incompetent strategist.

This one is good:

“Beyond Brazil above all, since we are a Christian country, God above everyone! It is not this story, this little story of secular state. It is a Christian state, and if a minority is against it, then move! Let’s make a Brazil for the majorities. Minorities have to bow to the majorities! The law must exist to defend the majorities. Minorities must fit in or simply disappear!”

Why do you think he won the election by such a wide margin? Are you suggesting most Brazilians are crypto Nazi-loving homophobes?

He won the election because a majority Brazilians appear willing to trade freedom for basic security. We will see if it bites them in the ass or not. But yes, there is a strong homophobic element also in Brazil's evangelical churches which were a huge part of his support base, and homophobic messaging was common in the social media messages of his followers.
