Schultz is actively hiring a top notch campaign team, so this is already beyond a floating a lame idea in the media. God, if he runs I hope Starbucks are razed to the ground and the earth is salted.

Do you think he actively wants Trump to be re-elected?

Or perhaps he just doesn't care?

Given that his campaign image currently his his name on top of his name, I'm guessing he's egotistical and deluded.

Oh well, maybe he might even take votes away from Trump, then. Just depends whether he is egotistical and deluded in a kind of appealing way ...

Do you believe he'd be a worse president than Donald Trump?

Satan wouldn't be a worse President than Trump. It's a low bar to clear.

It’s been less than 24 hours since Starbucks founder Howard Schultz announced he’s interested in running on a third party ticket in 2020, and Democrats’ anger is already spilling over.

Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg — another billionaire businessman eyeing the White House in 2020 — told Schultz to quit the race. “We must remain united, and we must not allow any candidate to divide or fracture us,” he pleaded. “The stakes couldn’t be higher.”

Rep. Julian Castro (D-Texas), another Democrat planning on running in 2020, is likewise telling Schultz to butt out, saying Sunday: “I would suggest to Mr. Schultz to truly think about the negative impact that [siphoning votes from Democrats] might make.”

On Monday Schultz held his first campaign style appearance at the Barnes and Noble in Union Square, New York City. Within just seconds of his appearance, rowdy Democrats began heckling him.”

“Go back to Davos with the other billionaires!” someone shouted. “Don’t re-elect Trump!”

Meanwhile Kamala Harris looks to have favorable coverage as evidenced by this CNN piece:

https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/29/politics ... index.html

As Kamala Harris introduced herself as a 2020 presidential candidate to Iowa caucus-goers and the nation on Monday night, she showed exactly why she is viewed as such a formidable contender.

During a CNN town hall at Drake University in Des Moines, she demonstrated an easy command of the policies that are most important to Democratic progressives in early states like Iowa. She was warm, witty and quick to laugh at the jokes audience members made at President Donald Trump's expense. She locked eyes with her questioners, responding to them by name and walking toward them as she answered, while displaying empathy for their struggles.

So, basically it'll be an interesting 22 months or so as the inevitable infighting takes place within the DNC. I noticed on Drudge they dug up some old Bernie Sanders footage of him hanging out with the Soviets in '88. Whatever the case may be I'd be shocked if Hillary Clinton mounts any sort of run. I have to wonder if Kamala got the tacit blessing of DNC powers to get ahead of the curve and start her campaign, hence the town hall and favorable coverage. We'll see.

It should be noted that DT has raised, already, over $100M for his re-election. Can't wait to see how the Mueller thing impacts his 2020 re-election bid.

That's really not the point. If he stands, that makes it a three-way race between Trump, Schultz and the Democrat candidate. Schultz is extremely unlikely to win, or even come second, and a very likely outcome of such a race is that he would take enough votes from the Democrats to let Trump in again - probably with considerably fewer votes than he got last time. (Trump would've course declare that to be the greatest victory since voting was invented).

How about the US adopting a two-round system, as found in at least one other country, where the first round is pretty much a multi-candidate free-for-all, followed by a second round with the two top candidates from the first round?

Has that ever been seriously considered? (I think there are better systems, but that has the merits of simplicity while limiting the damage done by hopeless third party candidates who may never achieve more than acting as a spoiler.)

Given all of the unknown landmines for Trump in the form of the Mueller Investigation, SDNY, New York State, et al, It is not inconceivable that Trump would run 3rd in 2020. Schultz could be the recipient of many Republicans who want to try something new but can't stand the idea of voting for a Democrat. So especially as Trump's star continues to fade, I think you will see a lot of GOP votes up for grabs.

Could be a transition from the Great Pumpkin to the Pumpkin Spiced Latte.

But this also could be an election where there is an actual backlash against political neophytism. Given the all the chaos that has originated from ignorance about how government works, I think voters may be a little more cautious about seeing a lack of experience as being a qualification.
