The Alabama Press Association’s Board of Directors has voted to censure Goodloe Sutton, the newspaper publisher who penned an editorial calling for the revival of the Ku Klux Klan.

The APA confirmed to AL.com it had also suspended the membership of The Democrat-Reporter, which printed the editorial on Feb. 14.

Under its bylaws, members will be allowed to address the question of expelling the newspaper at its next membership meeting. Today’s actions are believed to be the first time the group has censured a member.

Calls to The Democrat-Reporter seeking comment on the APA move went unanswered.

The APA is the state’s newspaper trade association, representing 24 daily newspapers and 99 non-daily newspapers, as well as more than 100 associate members.

To be fair to the rest of Alabama, Linden is not exactly a thriving metropolis. The city has been shrinking since 1990, and the population is less than 2,000.

I had the opportunity to call Alabama (sweet) home for eight years of my life. It's a beautiful place, fairly low cost of living, nice neighborhoods, gorgeous natural environment--lakes, pines, wild roses, blackberries and raspberries growing on the road side and the ever present kudzu taking over fences, farm tractors and what not. Doesn't take long to get to the mountains or shore from there. Had enough resources to keep us happy for 8 years.

It's on MY top ten lists of best places to live.

I honestly think that Editor Guy is sliding into senility or some other type of mental incapacitation. Reading the actual editorial copy is like reading something written by a marginal junior high school student. Hard to imagine that this fellow ran a newspaper considering the level of skill demonstrated by that piece.
