I honestly thought COVID would see an end to all buffet style restaurants. I've personally been turned off them for years.

But, I heard recently buffet-style restaurants are seeing a resurgence. So, ha! What do I know? My guess is that it's a reaction to inflation. Buffets are a great deal if you tend to eat a lot in one sitting. It's an awful deal if you eat right.
I wonder if that is an age-related thing. When I go to buffets I see a lot of people my age and older. Hardly anyone in their twenties through their fifties unless they have a bunch of kids. Buffets are good for giving senior discounts to older people. They also support our armed services with military discounts. This ensures there will not be any civil unrest around the salad bar unless the troublemaker wants to get choked out! Hispanics seem to love Asian buffets, subsequently, Asian buffets have learned to make deep-fried sushi. Pretty clever.

Any luck at the tables or do you like slots better?

Also, if you have time, go down to Fremont Street and observe the circus for a minute. Some of the street performers are pretty good. Be aware that there are a few crazies down there too. But that contributes to the atmosphere. Also, the drinks are a little cheaper.

Doc might like it when he's doing his experiments.

Don't keep us in suspense. Why was it disastrous?
(1) Accommodations. We went with the BYU dance team. The women all stayed in one hotel room in what was surely an enormous fire code violation. I slept on the floor.

(2) We were broke college students, so we didn't have money to do much. I had come under the promise that we would get time to walk around together after the competition, and that was all I really wanted. But that didn't happen because:

(3) His dance partner followed us around everywhere like a third wheel. I kept pointedly trying to spirit him away and she stayed glued to us. It turned out she was not just his dance partner, but his girlfriend.
Oh damn, MsJack. All of that really sucks. I'm sorry. :-(

It sucked, but my life is pretty good now and his is not. Living well and moving on really is the best revenge.
