Thank you for sharing this, Jersey. It brought back joyous memories. My partner-in-crime and I went to see the Stones in Pittsburgh in 2015, for what we thought might be their final tour. The tickets, flight, hotels, and car rental were all well worth the price of admission. I was ready to be mildly disappointed, but they exceeded my wildest expectations. We both thought they were absolutely incredible.
It's crazy how good they are isn't it? We thought it'd be their last tour, too, when we saw them on the No Filter Tour in 2019. As it turned out, that was Charlie Watts final tour. I still can't believe how (I don't even know a word for it) the sound system...sounds. I never expected that level of clarity.
We were lucky enough to get seats in the fifth row, and my wife still maintains that Jagger looked and pointed straight at her the whole time he was singing. She apparently didn't notice that he was really nodding to me.
Word on the street was that he looked, pointed, and nodded twice. Once to your wife and then to you. Please try to pay better attention. You apparently missed that obvious fact! 8-)

I'm not done with my review yet. Just busy.

Ha! He was thinking about his airplane conversation with Elder Quentin Cook, destroyer of the Marin County Health Care System and apostle.

You're thinking Gene Cook from the Quorum of 70, not Quentin Cook of the Quorum of the 12.

Sorry to all the political types for the intrusion of popping this back to the top but we're taking a Hackney Diamonds break over here...hiding out from the current convention.

Was watching a video of the Stones LA concert when I saw this in the comments:
@naomi8529
I was at this concert & let me tell you, they broke the richter scale. They came at us with everything they had, and they delivered. They blew L.a off the map. They nuked us, musical airstrikes were coming from all directions. I’ve seen so many Stones concerts but this was the greatest. Jagger is untouchable, legends beyond their time. Keith was so on point, Ronnie’s guitar was on another level. There are no words to describe this. Just MASTERPIECE Keep Rocking 2the Greatest
Yep! That pretty much sums up the nature of a Stones concert. Wish I had written that! I know I've said it multiple times but the videos you see do NOT do justice to the clarity and perfection of their sound system. You have to be there and experience it landing on your ears!

Freaking amazing it is!!

I would add only that the level of cool that drips out of Keith Richards finger is NOT to be believed. 8-)

I actually don't know where to pick up the ball I dropped here. A brief review...we started out in the parking lot having driven in the rain through heavy traffic to the stadium, watching tail gaters mostly old hippies eating and smoking dope, and chatting with cops (my how the world has changed!), got inside the venue having not been frisked to the teeth this time, picked up food, tried to find merch, stood in a long line only to find out there were no tee shirts left of any size! :o

The Hackney Diamonds visual thing on the screen breaks apart, Ladies and Gentlemen! The Rolling Stones!!

First chord of the first song, the stadium rises to it's collective feet to pay homage to the greatest R&R/R&B band known to mankind. And...some of us stay on our feet and dance until we just about have jelly legs. ;)

Apparently we were the first venue to get a 20-song setlist! :D

Start Me Up

It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (but I Like It)

Bitch

Angry

Let It Bleed
(Fan-voted song)

Wild Horses

Mess It Up

Tumbling Dice

You Can't Always Get What You Want
(with band introductions)

Jersey Girl sits down

Tell Me Straight
(Keith Richards on vocals)

Little T&A
(Keith Richards on vocals)

Jersey Girl dances

Happy
(Keith Richards on vocals)

Sympathy for the Devil

Honky Tonk Women

Midnight Rambler
(with a snippet of Robert Johnson's "Hell Hound on My Trail")

Jersey Girl sits down

Gimme Shelter

Jersey Girl dances

Paint It Black

Jumpin' Jack Flash

Encore:

Jersey Girl sits down

Sweet Sounds of Heaven

Jersey Girl dances

(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

Disappointments:

Let It Bleed won the fan vote. No Beast of Burden! :(

Personal favorites: Tumbling and Honky Tonk!

Surprises:

They brought back both Bleed and Bitch!

Songs I never cared for much that were AMAZING:

Paint it Black
Midnight Rambler

Paint it Black was simply unreal! The screen and lighting are all black and white and remember how I say that no video does the sound system justice? THIS was the perfect example of that. Keith starts the intro and when STEVE JORDAN starts the drums...we could NOT believe the sound of it! You can feel the drums go right through your body! Just so freaking unreal! As in get on your feet unreal!

Midnight Rambler! I hate that song! I absolutely LOVED it this time! The hand off between Keith and Jordan? PERFECTION!!! They even showed Steve pick up the rhythm and beat that Keith tosses to him on center screen! I think there's a video of that! If so I'll post it!

Comments from a first time Stones concert goer:

Paint it Black was worth the price of admission!

I've heard Sympathy before but I had NO IDEA how they turn it into a theatrical performance it in concert!

Love those reactions from a first timer!

Socio-Cultural Matters

So...if anyone recalls my account of the No Filter Tour they might remember the old hippie passing joints down the row. There may or may not have been offspring involved. ;)

This time there was this grandma in front of me to the right. An Old Guy sitting next to her on left and on right, another grandma type--her friend. Before the show started (not the opening act,we opted out of that, the Stones) she saw this Stones cardboard type fan on the floor and asked me if I could get it for her, so I did. I saw two more and got those for her too, and her friend said grandma has 3 grandkids and she was thrilled to bring them something. Nice old ladies, right?

When the show started grandma #1 is up dancing like I am and also the grandma friend next to her as well as the Old Guy on her left who may have actually been Grandpa but we don't like to make assumptions here when we're only looking at the back of a head. When we all sat down for a slow song, Old Guy lights up a joint and passes it to grandma #1 on his right who passes it to grandma friend on her right and back again to Old Guy. This happens uh...2 times I guess. Then someone's offspring taps Old Guy who passes the joint to someone's offspring and all I can say is that joint was traveling.

So I guess tapping someone is how you get a joint passed in this day and age. In the old days you would just sit in a circle and pass it around the circle or in the car you passed it back and forth between your riders unless the cops were coming up behind you to pull you over in which case you snuffed it out and ate the joint before you stopped the car.

Of course that is all hearsay because what would I know?

I've got the RNC in my ear while writing this even with the door closed. Also waiting for Walmart grocery delivery before 10 p.m. and if they come up our driveway in the dark it'll be a miracle so watching out the window while writing in case I have to go bail them out on the delivery...anyway...So previously I stated:

We had just enough time for some of us to get snacks and then stood in a line to get merch (on a different level) and by the time we got to the counter...they were SOLD OUT of shirts :o with a promise that more were coming from a lower level in about 30 minutes.

That's nice. No thank you. If you think for single second that I'm going to miss the opening riff for a tee shirt you are sadly mistaken! I really wanted a shirt, too. :( (Hold that thought).
So our consensus was that we would leave before the last song was done (Satisfaction) and head out. I like to stay for the final bows but we're talking survival here so we got up and left the stadium...me catching glimpses of the band through the various doors the whole time...down the ramps...then out the door dinosaur!

And as we walked to the parking lot...I was asked if I wanted to try that merch trailer I think I mentioned previously that was set up in the parking lot not far from our car so I said yes even though I though it was probably packing it up...

NOT SO!

The merch trailer had EVERYTHING IN ALL SIZES including small and guess who has a Hackney Diamond's Tour shirt now!

Image

Yeah ME!!! I love it so much!!

Finishing up here...if anyone read the No Filter review I did they might remember the parking lot episode while trying to get an Uber over there and how LONG it took (hours), and how HOT it was, and how that one Uber driver shoved a drunken lady out of his car in the parking lot, and how we all ducked for cover for a second or two because it was getting weird. I'm from Jersey I ain't stupid!

Not this time! We simply got in our POV and drove home in TEN MINUTES!!!

It was a fabulous experience this time start to finish!! Loved every second of the concert with just one minor quibble because Keith did NOT meet me at the merch stands during the opening act as planned but I forgive him because we love him like honey dripping off warm biscuits fresh out of the oven and we always will!!

He is that cool!
