Not that interested politicians (Trump or Trump camp included) - I would say that it looks really good for the American people at the moment.
I would say it might seem to look good if you are: white, male, heterosexual, right-wing Protestant, fearful of complexity, resentful of immigrants, a billionaire, an extreme right-wing crank, a believer in inequality between the only two genders you acknowledge the existence of, and other things like that. If you don’t fit into any of those categories, things may look less hopeful or “good” at the moment.
Now, this is not to say people who fit those categories are not good, or that these are the only categories of people who like Trump. But I think certain groups are more likely to react one way as opposed to another.
"I have learned with what evils tyranny infects a state. For it frustrates all the virtues, robs freedom of its lofty mood, and opens a school of fawning and terror, inasmuch as it leaves matters not to the wisdom of the laws, but to the angry whim of those who are in authority.”
Not that interested politicians (Trump or Trump camp included) - I would say that it looks really good for the American people at the moment.
Fear not, Ceeboo. If Trump wins, within the four years that follow housing prices will remain expensive and become more so, fuel costs will never dip below the low $3 mark, ill-conceived tariffs will push the cost of most goods even higher, insurance costs will continue to increase, healthcare will become even more unaffordable, and Putin will see the US end aid to Ukraine which will allow him to take that country and kill hundreds of thousands while we pretend it doesn’t matter. You may also see your federal tax obligation drop by $12 while the national debt doubles. And you will look at all of that and proclaim how much more prosperous and glorious the world is, because Trump is presiding over all of it, instead of Biden. And you will be happy.
I would say that it looks really good for the American people at the moment.
Agreed. Employment is back to pre-pandemic levels, inflation caused by over a decade of catch-up from the effects of the Great Recession and the need to inject liquidity during the pandemic is slowing and may (knock on wood) achieve the soft landing deemed almost impossible, the DOW closed at it's all time high of 41,198.08 today. Crime is down having spiked in 2020, we seem on track to actually engage the climate crisis with meaningful investments and commitments, and chocolate remains the king of ice cream flavors.
This is the kind of thing I think is killing Biden's support. Here's a headline nabbed just now off CNN. Emphasis mine.
Pelosi privately told Biden polls show he cannot win and will take down the House; Biden responded with defensiveness
Privately? And it's on CNN? It makes Pelosi look like a two-faced poster child for breach of confidentiality who is out to undermine the very same President she's been supporting for years. This is exactly what makes all of us think the Biden run is imploding. Maybe it is...maybe we're just being manipulated by the press and anyone willing to get their 5 minutes in the spotlight.
The problem is that we don't know anything.
